Re: NCAA FB 2023
I didn't watch any UW games all season, up until the Sugar Bowl, so take this with a grain of salt.
But to me it just looked like they were overmatched on the LOS, especially their O-Line. The Huskies right guard seemed like he was moving early on every snap, just trying to get a jump on the pass rush. Penix just looked like he couldn't be comfortable in the pocket, and he missed some chances.
Better team won, but it was a fun season for the Dawgs.

I haven't checked, but has anyone meme'd Penix walking off the field with Smokey when he had to shit but his mom wasn't home?
Re: NCAA FB 2023
First day back in the office so I went across the street to the huge mall to grab a bite and it's like someone threw up maize and blue all over that place.
I also learned something about college girls...their moms are hot.

In the 4th quarter, Karsch referenced an old buddy he hasn’t talked to in years texting him during the game asking him if “he was watching this”, apparently not realizing he’s now the voice of the Wolverines hahaNonlinear FC wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:31 am
Got a bunch of pics from him during the game. So fucking cool.

Re: NCAA FB 2023
Yeah really is. I can’t think who would step up and be the guy right after. I assume Dabo and Kirby top their list.

Re: NCAA FB 2023
Hard to see either of those guys leaving their jobs. Maybe Dabo I guess to get out of the ACC. Kirby’s not going anywhere.

Jim Leavitt had a job offer from Alabama that he turned down to stay at USF, which forced them to look at Saban who was coaching the Dolphins at the time.

UM's two post-season wins were just devastating to their new conference foe.

Or have Jimmy Sexton get even more money out of your Seattle-based employer.

Re: NCAA FB 2023
Lots of guys are doing it now. It's more common to see people enter the transfer portal after three years of college (two-and-a-half, actually, since they are usually finishing their bachelor's in the spring of their third year) to leave with two years of eligibility remaining and degree in hand.

This guy is taking eight classes this semester to graduate this spring (although the post-grad degree is not his primary aim).DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 7:00 pmLots of guys are doing it now. Re: NCAA FB 2023
What's interesting (to me) is that while M has had huge success the last 3 years, they have not blown the doors off with 5 and 4 star recruits. As mentioned, there's some genius to how they've sorted out the 3 and 4 stars they DID gather, along with JJ, Corum, Will Johnson and a few other outlier 5 stars over the years.
While there isn't any empirical data to support this, one of the theories that has been put out there a lot is that top recruits were warned away from M (especially the last 5 years) because of the threat of Harbaugh leaving. I'm wondering if a more stable presence at the top (Moore) might help land some more "ready to play right away" recruits.
(With all of that said, I think a lot of folks are kind of sleeping on the returning cast. Especially on the Defensive side. They are going to be nasty.)

I haven't been in here chronicling the MI coaching staff moves, but it's been kind of a wild week on this front, rounding out with Wink Martindale (which, I can't take that name seriously) being named DC in the last 24 hours.
Now the breaking news/rumor is that Chip Kelly is going to be named OC at tOSU.

Re: NCAA FB 2023
I’m sure there’s an obvious one I’m forgetting, but when is the last time a head coach at a big conference school left to become a coordinator in the same conference?

Re: NCAA FB 2023
I don’t think it’s ever happened. G5 head coaches have left to be coordinators at P5 schools but this seems unprecedented

Re: NCAA FB 2023
Jack Tuttle just received a waiver to play his SEVENTH SEASON of college football at MI. (I mean, he transferred in from Indiana, to be clear.)
He's somewhere in the 3rd / 4th string zone, and that's before whatever happens in the spring transfer portal.
Like, dude... maybe start looking to your future at Goldman Sachs (or whatever.)

Re: NCAA FB 2023
Sooooo...
Kind of a little bit lost in the news churn the last few days was the ratification of the CFB playoff rules. Specifically, that the winners of the SEC, B1G, ACC and Big 12 all get the top 1-4 seeds for the playoffs.
This means Notre Dame, under existing rules, can go 12-0 and the best they get is a #5 seed. And, from what I'm reading, they seem perfectly fine with it and helped facilitate and broker this format. I guess the calculus is that they haven't been in the top 4 consistently for quite awhile, so why not promote a 12 team format that doesn't somehow try to wedge in a clause for them to get a top 4 seed.
Makes sense, but also kind of sends a mixed or confusing message to the program. Maybe I'm reading too much into it and I certainly don't spend a bunch of time trying to get into the mindset of the Notre Dame cognoscenti.

Re: NCAA FB 2023
the simple answer is a home playoff game
ETA: it's also the four highest-ranked conference champions. that's splitting hairs a bit, but it's not exclusive to the four power conferences
