I went to the game last week against the Avs...despite being up 1-0 and 2-1 they just looked listless and flat. I can't believe Larkin makes that much of a difference. Almost looks like coaching is the problem to me.

So Tom Wilson is missing games due to a face infection from a high stick to the face.

Was at the game last night and Vegas looked horrible. They might not get in if this continues and Minnesota plays better.

2-8 this season without him, which goes to 2-10 if you include the two games in which he has been injured and did not return. Athletic had a column today about their slide and how his absence has been a big part. (I have 30-day passes, if anyone is interested.)
Up to seven straight losses (home-and-home against the Coyotes!) and the Wings have been outscored in the last five without Larkin, 27-9.

Is that good?

1) I was very down on the Caps early on. Addition by subtraction and now they are playing a very solid style. I hate to say this, but Backstrom being out was already a net positive, and then you have Oshie out for extended amounts of time, which is allowing the young guys (many of whom played on the AHL championship team last season) to shine.

2) Along those lines, Kuznetsov was a disaster this season, as previously noted. He has scored 2 goals with 3 assists with the Canes in 7 games. He really needed to do whatever he needed to do to get his head right and hopefully he can sustain his newfound success down there.

8 goals in his first 43 games
18 in his last 24 (including 8 goals during his current 5-game goal streak)

Caps have the 2nd wild card spot, 2 points back of 3rd place with 2 games in hand. Fun run into the end of the season. Great time for fios to drop the channel that has the games...

Huge win for the Caps tonight. And they look like a completely different team than from October/November.

Shedding some guys and allowing some of the youth to step forward... This is a fun team to watch. Crazy, given what I saw (and posted about) early in this season.

I can’t figure out whether to laugh at the Wild for not trusting they could get a win in OT/SO or applauding their balls but they probably eliminated themselves with that stunt today.

Smarter move would be to pull the goalie at end of regulation I think. If it works they get 2 pts and Vegas 0. And the game could still end up going to OT anyway.

The worst part of these Knicks and Rangers seasons is I really felt like Dolan might be getting ready to sell.

(The best part is all the winning.)

Rempe and Marino are both lucky they still have their full faces. Rangers losing their two worst Fs and a badly struggling Trouba isn’t the worst thing but 4 D for 59:58 isn’t great.

(And Cuylle easily could have gotten more for his boarding. Deserved the punches he ate.)

What the hell were the coaches screaming at each other about after? Did someone abandon the script? Was it just supposed to be the to let the 2 goons fight and one of them saw a chance to get some valuable ejections?

Without knowing the answer, NJ has a lot more to yell at NYR about than vice versa. Rempe deserves to get the shit kicked out of him by then and then some. And if Vesey wasn’t responsible for the line brawl, he knew it was coming and clearly tried to get a jump.

Right, so is the implication that Vesey was the Ranger's best player on the ice and therefore intentionally tried to engage first so he wouldn't be ejected?

That actually makes sense because Rempe clearly backed off and waited after the puck dropped.

Another question...is just skating away after someone throws down their gloves ever a thing or is there some sort of alpha-male, emasculatory, bullshit, unwritten rule about that?

Also, if you're swinging fists at a helmet, doesn't it make more sense to keep your gloves on?

I think there are lots of occasions where one guy challenges another but gets turned down. In that case gloves are generally not thrown down. Gloves go off when a guy anticipates a fight, or if the guy is so angry that he’s throwing hands whether the other guy does or not.

Nah, we would have kept Miller if anyone. More than Vesey doesn’t fight and maybe thought his best chance was diving right in.

You can definitely skate away if the other guy drops, but Rempe couldn’t. He had to answer for a lot there.

I wonder how often a forward doubles their season goal total in their 75th game. Like I’m sure plenty of 3rd pair D score their 2nd of the year late, but has to be pretty rare up front.

I'll take a point on the road against Toronto but still...fuck. They had the ice tilted their way for most of that game.

Sid had about a 4-5 minute stretch in the second where he got fucked up 3 times. He got hit with a high stick right in the mouth but dude was swinging at the puck and just slammed the puck into his mouth with his stick. Bleeding too so went from a double minor to no penalty.

They still need to rebuild desperately but if they can pull this off it would be so cool.
