Overtime the night before also. Against a team (Minnestota) they would want to beat. Id bet theres a pattern there. Report said starters didnt play second half at all.

I had it on in the background. Tatum and Brown got pulled in middle of the 3rd down by about 30.

ETA: and like I said, it’s explainable, and one bad loss to a contender in January under these circumstances isn’t really predictive. I just was making more a testament to how good that Bulls team was. Maybe the best team performance I’ve seen in North America for a single season including playoffs.

I don't watch much non-Rockets NBA, but I don't recall ever watching a game on TNT that they decided to go away from.

Excited about the Pacers getting Siakam. They are all ready so fun to watch, but now add in another playmaker at PF is going to be something.

He'll also help on defense. Not sure how much one player can do, but his versatility gives a lot of options.

Yeah, I read it was at a team dinner. The NBA seems to fuck up a lot less than other leagues and postponing tonight is the right call.

Defense is the weak link for the Pacers this year. Anything extra helps. Especially bigger bodies. Although Brown was supposed to be some sort of defensive wizard when he was signed this summer. No loss.

Joel Embiid had himself a night. And he might not be the only dude to hit 70 tonight. KAT is at 53 midway the 3rd.

The one recap I read this AM praised Embiid for doing this in a win and especially killed KAT for putting himself ahead of the team by jacking up shots late in what turned out to be a loss and getting himself benched.

I don’t know (or, for the purposes of this post, care) if +/- is a valued stat but Anunoby is insane. Tonight versus Denver was +39 (which was 11 over 2nd), a plus in every game so far (11-2) and only a single digit plus twice.

Derrick White leads in plus minus so I'd say yes. Valid. Is Derrick White and jrue holiday the best guard combo in NBA? The highest paid player in the league is the 5th best starter on his team.

All five starters from the team with the best record in the league are in the top 16. It is a highly context-dependent stat.

Or Tobias Harris is a better player than Nikola Jokic, Trey Murphy III and 143 other players are better than LeBron James, and 340 players in the NBA are better than Stephen Curry.

Yeah, I've been mostly looking at it relative to his new friends and not league wide but I assume even that is matchup dependent. Not that Anunoby is benefitting there, but I imagine the backup center is generally facing more favorable matchups than the starter.

All good points but interesting that White is the highest on the Celtics. No one would say he's the best but he might be the most important and for whatever reason plus minus recognizes that.

How much garbage time does he get as opposed to the "stars" on the team? What are his minutes versus sub .500 teams as opposed to those better?

As for White, hes probably not the first or second off the floor in a blowout but the Celtics are doing the blowing out. So it would be a negative to your plus minus to play more garbage minutes cause teams go from down 25 to down 15 when the Cs take the foot of the pedal in the 4th. Cs also have no bench beyond Horford and not really sure what if any impact that has on plus minus

That's your word, better. So it doesn't measure better. Neither does ppg, necessarily. Not quite sure what it measures but it does seem to identify value in players that might not be highlighted in traditional stats

It measures how good a player is based upon who the other four players who are on the floor with him.

The more you play with good players, the better your plus-minus will be.

The more you play with bad players, the worse your plus-minus will be.

Fin.

I'm with D-Safe on this one. Luc Longley, Joe Kliene, and Bill Wennington probably had great +/- in 1998, but that doesn't mean collectively they weren't twenty-one feet of shit.

So getting back to OGA ... his relative +/- are pretty sexy, no? There's value in showing that he's consistently above or near the team lead (on a new team/system).

The Knicks have played well since Anunoby (+239) has been there. He has played a lot with Brunson (+193 in 11 of the 13 games since the trade) and Randle (+148 in the 13 games). He's being used less as a ballhandler and is playing with the best point guard of his pro career, so his shooting percentages are among his career best.

He's also played a significant role in changing the Knicks into the league's best defense since his arrival. Zach Lowe, today:
They are plus-100 in 211 minutes with Brunson, Randle, Anunoby, and the scorching Donte DiVincenzo on the floor.
Thibs is going to burn them out.

Agreed with yall. Seems like there should be a way to use this metric to objectively measure your value while on/off the floor.
Perhaps subtract the amount the team actually wins(loses) by and adjust for minutes played. That number wouldnt depend on who youre playing with. And that should equal better.

His usage patterns are insane. A 30 point lead isn't safe, a 30 point deficit can be overcome.
