Yeah, that was a great game. I was 12 as well and still remember where I was. (It was Lorenzo Charles who dunked that last shot.) And actually, State made a habit out of stealing games due to their opponents missing free throws. It happened game after game for them in that magical run. Broke my heart twice when they knocked out UVA and Ralph Sampson in the ACC Tournament Finals and then again in the Elite Eight.

DSafetyGuy wrote: Sun Mar 24, 2024 2:36 pm Since the tournament shifted to having every game televised in its current manner, CBS has had an exclusive window for the first two games of the second round on both Saturday and Sunday. They choose the doubleheader that they want for air, usually based on a combination of grabbing high seeds and name-brand schools to get the biggest audience. The games with small school double-digit seeds playing tonight (James Madison-Duke, Grand Canyon-Alabama, Yale-San Diego State) helped eliminate the doubleheaders involving UConn and Houston (and both those teams have a very good chance at routing their opponents, better known as getting people to change the channel).

That is why yesterday was Arizona-Dayton and Kansas-Gonzaga, despite the early local tip-off time. The two-seed that is a national brand and a matchup between two name brands to drive TV audience.
So the exclusive window for Purdue / Utah St is because they figured there was a very real chance of an upset, cuz I'm watching spring training baseball til the next game.
I don't know that they were hoping for an upset, but more that they were hoping an 8-seed could keep it close. They other 1-seeds were playing 9-seeds and one of them played a game that was even more of a blowout even though the final was closer (UConn was up 14 by eight minutes in and 22 at half). The only venue that had two close games was Memphis (Clemson-Baylor and Houston-aTm). There was only one other game with a single-digit margin and it was paired with the biggest blowout.

Maybe CBS executives need to make their old show "Early Edition" a reality. The premise was built around a guy who got tomorrow's paper today. The execs would at least know which arena would have the two best games.

I know I've mentioned it before, but I was at that game. Freshman year in college, and Utah had a miracle run to the Sweet Sixteen, with those games being played just up the road in Ogden. Since it was spring break, and I was staying on campus to ski for the week, it was easy for a buddy and I to get student tickets for the regionals.

M hires FAU's Day as new HC.

General consensus is they were able to get The Guy in terms of available candidates and they beat out L'ville (reportedly) to do so.

Lots of folks calling for Warde Manuel's (AD) head in recent months... Methinks that clammer will die down for awhile. (This is the same fanbase that wanted to fire Harbaugh in the aftermath of a COVID season that should've been obvious to any semi-objective brains was a total anomaly of a season.)

Live by the three, die by the missed three.

And it looks to me like UConn is just gonna win every game by 20 again. Don't see anyone left being able to beat them.

I hadn't thought about that. Amazing. And quite sad. I hope that the end result of all this conference bloat is a realization that there's a reasonable size that works and having regional coherence adds a lot.

It was only while he was shredding Carolina that they mentioned that he had transferred from North Dakota State that I finally recognized him. An amazing highlight reel of his went around Twitter a year or so ago and I was shocked at how a player of that caliber could be somewhere like North Dakota State.

I mean, look at this guy. He looks like a lottery pick to me.

I had the same thought when he pulled that spin move on the baseline and left the UNC defender standing there like a post.

They’ll make a documentary one day about how Kyle Filipowski overcame an unruly mob who almost ended his life to barely beat a UH team who lost its best player in the first half. Truly inspiring.

Gonzaga got about as far as expected. My kid was bummed out, but considering that 6 weeks ago there was serious talk about them not even making the tournament, the Sweet 16 is a good result.

Purdue looks really good, but I still wonder what will happen if they get in a close game down the stretch.

Yup. Always getting the calls. I could stomach them not calling the push off, but to double down and call a foul on UH? Get outta here.

Both teams shooting like crap. Yet UConn up 16. Not sure Illinois’ decision to treat Clingan as a 6’8” dude instead of 7’2” is a wise decision.
