Shane MacGowan
Sadly, yes. Another who lasted waaaaaaay longer than anyone expected has gone. This one wasn't responsible for millions of deaths, unless you're counting brain cells. Him dying makes me want to head straight to Four Green Fields and alternate whisky and Guinness all day long. Singer of the best Christmas song of all time deserves his own thread.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.

His dying thought was probably “at least I outlived Kissinger”
Bandwagon fan of the 2023 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!
Re: Shane MacGowan
Saw him at 5 or 6 different gigs (Pogues and Popes) and never witnessed him complete a set. Probably my favourite singer, along with Cat Stevens. Rum Sodomy & the Lash is just a brilliant album and the body of an american is my favourite song. Shed a wee tear this evening for this poet, who was sadly better know for the last than the lyrics.

The repression of the Catholic church, you have to love them...
The Irish have a reputation to live up to and they generally do it pretty well at funerals. I friend of mine took his own life just over a year ago and the Irish half of his family travelled to the small coastal village in Wales where he had lived most of his life for the funeral. A number of them arrived several days before the funeral, which required two new pallbearers and also a positional change by the morning of the funeral.
The positional change was due to one of the pallbearers breaking his right hand in a fight and he needed to switch to South paw, the two replacements were due to alcohol consumption from the starters. Putting the casket in the ground was also a fecking nightmare, due to the broken hand and the high blood alcohol levels of the replacements. The Welsh are not Celts, they are Britons and are as happy as most to put a bit of alcohol down their throats. Add Celts to most events that include alcohol and expressing emotion and you have all the ingredients to make something pretty socially interesting.
