Ron Rivera

And Arthur Smith didn't make it past midnight, so he was technically a Black Sunday casualty

Guess he never watched the Jets before signing with them.

Also Panthers Fire their GM

Also, Aaron Rodgers complaining about the noise and bullshit is...rich, given who he is and what he spews 24/7.

No shit. The Jets need to start by cutting all of the players Rodgers demanded they sign, like Randall Cobb (seems like a great guy from Hard Knocks, but when he caught a pass yesterday, I completely forgot he was still on the team!), Lazard and Boyle. All 3 are a complete waste of cap space.

But the two aren't really connected since it had nothing to do with Jackson and everything to do with colluding to suppress salaries.

It is connected in the sense that if the owners had not been colluding one of those teams might not have sucked.

Really not nice of you to mock poor Arthur Smith, who just got caught up in the machinations and whims of billionaires. The little guy doesn't stand a chance in that situation.

Imagine being either Smith (literally can't remember the first one's name) and knowing there's at least a chance you won't be known as the biggest loser Falcons head coach with your own name

Yeah, it’s the GMs and owners who suck more.

I think Pete Carroll is grateful that the Huskies are in the Nat'l Championship game tonight...otherwise he might be getting some more attention about the damp squib (man, I love that phrase) of a season that just ended.

He never coached under Bill, only played. He's part of the Bill 0'Brian (NFL) or Urban Meyer (OSU) trees.

Isn't that like saying your grandfather isn't a part of your family tree because he wasn't your father?

On whether Tennessee consideration given to trading Vrabel: "Yes, there was. But there's a bit of misconception about a coach's contract, say versus a player's contract. A coach's contract, you can't trade them unless they are a willing partner to that trade."

So by your logic, Ryans is off the Kubiack tree rather than the Shanahan tree.

BoB isn't part of Belechick's tree either. He was a pretty experienced college coach/coordinator before he came to NE (which was only for 4 years.)

odd argument aside, trying to claim that a guy who got his first major head coaching job directly after spending five seasons in New England and working his way up the offensive staff *isn't* part of the New England/Belichick coaching tree is quite the reach

He was OC at a major program, he would have gotten a job sooner than later if he simply stayed in the college game. Not like Belicheck instilled him with offensive concepts anyway, he worked under Weis in NE, who also wasn't part of the Belicheck tree.

I’m even more confused now — are you saying that a coach can only be considered as part of a coaching tree by virtue of where his first coaching job was?

I still think Vrabel is a good coach; good coaches get fired. He's had some bad QBs which will make any coach look bad, as I'm unfortunately learning now.

He's also had a transcendental RB, I'm not as set on him being that great of a coach. Belechick needs some GM checking but otherwise is still better than 95% of the coaches in the NFL.

The things that actually make people good coaches vs just luck with talent are completely unknown to the average fan. Get a guy that can gameplan and utilitze strengths. Otherwise, throw a dart.

It was nice to have two good coordinators here in Baltimore for one season. I imagine they could both be gone after this year.

Eh, don’t worry BFJ. Coordinators don’t move the needle negatively that much. Look what happened to my guys this year after losing both OC and DC.
