I’ve been invited to speak as a keynote speaker at a conference in St. Louis in October. I don’t think we have any Swampers there since Fritz left, but anyone with restaurant recs or suggestions for stuff to do, please share.

Ok, thanks. I'm still hammering out the days and times I will be there.

You’re right. I don’t know why I thought he was from STL. Always get those 1987 World Series participants mixed up.

Even though he's a Minnesota guy, he was a St. Louis Cardinal fan (iirc). That might be why you thought he was from St. Loo. (He was also a Flyer fan iirc, for some reason.)

ps: Bfj, I don't know St. Louis, but my wife is from a little town about a half hour west of the city, and all I can say is that I sure as hell recommend you avoid that place and the others like it.

Yeah, he knows it pretty well. I went to college there, so my knowledge is a bit stale. Go to Ted Drewes for frozen custard!

Girlfriend before I met my wife was from St Louis. She believed Domino’s was the best pizza in the world, so I’d say avoid the pizza.

This is a must. Also, the Italian food joints found in the Hill neighborhood are damn good.

Similarly, nobody here allows “ZA” in Scrabble, right? I don’t care if they put it in the official Scrabble dictionary; it’s a bullshit “word”.

She’s from St. Louis, so if St. Louis-style is her reference point, Dominos doesn’t look bad.

What's the best St Louis cuisine?

Ribs?

Find a good rib joint that specializes in StL rub (or whatever that's called) with some local craft beers.

Or, ask the resident StL expert. He'll know.

Not trying to be an asshole, but STL just isn't known for any particular type of food. Other than, like, something to do with ravioli which is super whatever. I had a trip planned that included being there for a day-night-day and was kind of flummoxed by the lack... "You HAVE to try this!" type of returns on my searches.

Hot take: Other than certain parts of Florida, not sure I've ever been so underwhelmed by my food research of a major US city. Kansas City, by contrast, off the charts.

Fuck. INDIANAPOLIS had tons of places I wanted to hit.

FWIW Coastal Florida has some of the best seafood in the world. You just have to know where to find it.

But seriously, I thought St Louis had a solid bbq rib reputation. Never knew about toasted ravioli. That's not a dish to hang your hat on.

Salt and Smoke would be a rec, but I don't know how kosher you are. But shit, the sides alone were worth it. And of course they have beef and chicken and whatnot.

Kentucky kosher. I think maybe that means one ice cube in the bourbon.

Toasted ravioli is quite good, but it's not really something to base a meal around. More of an appetizer. And there used to be quite a few good Italian restaurants on The Hill. And one or two very good high-end restaurants down near the river.

The Art Museum was cool...and free.

And the Anheuser-Busch Brewery tour made me damn proud to be a beer drinking American.

That's all I got...its been a long time since I was in St Louis.

My wife just mentioned that the son of her childhood/high school best friend is executive chef of this French restaurant. His (biased) mother says it is a great place.

gooey butter cake is also a StL thing (and is very good). Blue Bell just expanded into StL last week and introduced a gooey butter cake flavor. it's great

https://www.bluebell.com/news/blue-bell ... ice-cream/

Like KC, StL is also such a spread out and car-centric city that it's much easier to recommend places based off where you're staying if you haven't rented a car
