Joseph I. Lieberman, the doggedly independent four-term U.S. senator from Connecticut who was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, becoming the first Jewish candidate on the national ticket of a major party, died March 27 in New York City. He was 82.
I'll never forget him for sitting there during the 2000 Veep debate and letting Dick Cheney run all over him. Cheney claimed that his government connections had nothing to do with Haliburton hiring him, and Lieberman just sat there, not pushing back at all.

The first non-President politician I ever became aware of because he was highlighted in GamePro Magazine in the early 90s because video games were getting too violent. Fuck him.
The classic example of being moderate for the sake of being moderate.
Also, representing a state with lots of insurance companies’ headquarters’.

Yeah, what sc said... A lot of what Leiberman did was driven by big money interests. He played spoiler on a lot of stuff under the guise of DLC "moderation" tactics.

I also remember how after he got primaried, and beaten, in 2006 by Ned Lamont (current CT gov), he had a temper tantrum about the voters taking "his seat" and ran as an independent, focusing on getting Republican votes and winning.
