FSU tried winning all of their games last year and it didn't work out for them. Trying something new this year.

If you have designs on being in the national championship hunt, I think it does mean something.

Agreed. Not having to go 13-0 to make a playoff is not a bad thing. Almost any loss especially early in the season is still a potentially season-costing loss. Not like there’s gonna be 8-4 teams in the playoff.

Did the NFL trademark two minute "WARNING"? So many two minute "TIMEOUTS" today.

Feels like giving up 21 points in the 4th quarter to lose to not only an FCS team but the second best team in the state of Montana is not optimal, New Mexico.

I feel like a similar scenario might play out next week when Colorado plays North Dakota State.

I just read on Bluesky that Florida State is the first team to ever have outright possession of 17th place in the ACC football standings.

I find the "the playoff has devalued the regular season" sentiment odd. No one would attempt to argue that when it comes to the NFL.

The focus has simply shifted to include more teams -- and that's a win for CFB as a whole. More fanbases are going to be engaged as the season goes on and, truly, everyone can start the season now hoping their team can make the playoff from the SEC to Conference USA.

Florida State is the perfect example of the counter argument as well. Before this season their title hopes were probably effectively 0. Now they still have everything to play for.

No. They’re effectively independent this year. The PAC-12 has a two-year grace period from the NCAA to re-form and WSU and OSU are the only (current) stakeholders in that process.

(I think there’s too much brand equity in the Pac 10/12 name for it to die even if it’ll probably end up being the Mountain West + OSU/WSU re-named)

They once gave up 93 points to Florida. They are not a football school.

Independent in Football. They are both playing in the WCC (the conference with Gonzaga, St Marys, Loyola Marymount, etc) in basketball, and I'm guessing other sports, this year.

Northwestern's temporary stadium is nicer than their old one. The lake view is a nice touch. For now. November will probably suck.

Will Johnson just had an INT return for a TD that will be at the top of his tape when he’s a top 5 pick in next year’s draft. Just sick.

People just have to have something to bitch about, especially when it comes to college football. It's like every fan thinks they need to be Paul Finebaum or Stephen A and it's kind of exhausting if you get sucked into it.

Totally agree that having one loss effectively ruin a season sucked ass. Been feeling that way since I was a little kid and a loss in, like, week 3 to Notre Dame meant we were out of the NC race. Still had the Rose Bowl to play for, but it was still a pretty massive bummer.

I haven't read anything on the MI win, but just watching extended highlights... Wolverines better tighten shit up or they are going to get worked by the Longhorns.

(With that said, Fresno went 9-4 last year with a win over Purdue and a bowl win to end the season. Not exactly a doormat.)

Fresno’s offense is pretty legit and Michigan more or less completely shut them down.

Maybe not surprisingly biggest issue for UM right now is the OL. They looked completely lost at times. I think that’s an area that should improve as season goes on but likely to cost them next week.

I’m watching the Modelo Vegas Kickoff Classic and definitely not sober but has there been an alcohol as a top line, in the game’s official title sponsor for a college game before this?

Might be first time a school is eliminated from making conference title game before Labor Day is over.

(Not really joking. Hard to imagine 2 losses making the top 2 of a 17-team conference.)
