Makes me wonder if he was just saying it as a trial balloon since he was out of state at an event without a ton of media coverage, just to see what the reaction would be in case he feels he has to change direction.

This ain't my area of expertise and I haven't seen how the Rescue Plan calls for a Governor allocating funds, but I'm thinking withholding these funds won't hold up in court.

Perhaps a rhetorical question, but how is it politically expedient to tell voters that you will basically cut funding to their kids' schools because the schools were trying to keep the kids safe?

So Boebert's husband, who's LinkedIn shows him as a 'Well Site Supervisor' and no College degree (says he attended Univ of Southern Nevada), suddenly is getting paid $500K a year as a 'consultant'? And they 'forgot' to report it?

I've heard a substantial number of Republicans in the House are fed up with her, maybe they choose not to obstruct an investigation into this? Naw, of course she gets away without consequences. And after all the shit of attacking Hunter Biden for sitting on Burisma's board (Hunter is an attorney with board experience for a number of firms), the Right will have no problem with this and claim it's merely a clerical error, or who cares, everybody does it.

It would make all the sense in the world that a republican wins this recall, Dianne Feinstein croaks (she's 88!), and the Senate flips back to red.

The crazy thing is that the Democrats didn't really put up a candidate to contest Newsom, just in case.

They're banking on Newsom staying or bust.

How did it get to this point? Are people so upset or apathetic that they could risk going back to a republican governor?

It gets to this point because for 4 years all day, every day the media pumped Trump doom and gloom (which they were right to, but it also has a monetary effect on their bottom line so it was financially advantageous too) and it keeps people filled with anxiety and fear leading to the motivation to assemble against him.

There's no longer that threat and hey, it's California! Land of fruits and nuts and Democrats. Everyone else will vote against recalling Newsom, so why should I?

Complacency, man. Republicans, like the Taliban, just have to wait.

It's because of the structure of a recall vote. First, you vote yes or no on recall, then vote for the candidate. Putting up a Dem means that person's supporters vote yes for recall, making the recall almost guaranteed. My fear is a lot of Dems don't like Newsom and won't make the effort to vote because they don't like him. Newsom's team is advising people vote no on recall and leaving second question (selecting candidate) blank. That worries me, because if everyone who voted no selected the least worst candidate, you wouldn't get a horrible Republican. Republicans are going to split the vote between dozens of candidates, if there was one Dems all voted for, they'd win by a huge number. It's too bad they don't first have a recall vote, then an election afterwards.

Couldn't they cover both? Vote no. But if you vote yes (or no) then vote for this one high profile Democrat. Or is that mixed messaging?

Having two votes would cost double the money.

You could, but a lot of Dems would vote yes, because they want Newsom gone, and we are stuck with a recount. Maybe enough would vote for the Dem, but they think they have a better shot with no Dem on the ballot.

Yet likely effective in a state as blue as California. It would be way riskier to legitimize the recall by putting up a “real” candidate.

If you made a list of the top 25 governors deserving of a recall I don’t think Newsom would be on it. At a certain point you just have to stop legitimizing these cynical GOP tactics.
