How the fuck did Beto not run out from behind his podium and punch Cruz in his giant blobfish face? Cruz kept blatantly lying and intentionally twisting Beto's positions into insane scare tactic dystopian death wishes, all while giving Beto his creepy alien attempting to look human smile. Beto is a better man than I am, because I can't look at Cruz without my blood boiling.
Watching the debate it frustrates me how the democrats don't punch back. Cruz is not that great of a debater, lies a lot and is a robotic piece of garbage. Attack him (like Trump did)
For example, immigration.
The Republicans have one standard line that everyone from Trump on down uses. "We are for legal immigration and want to stop illegal immigration, what's wrong with that?" Then the democrats get into this sob story about how great the dreamers are and why it sucks for a kid to have lived here all his life gets sent home blah blah boo hoo etc.. etc.." Then the republican says, "well then, you obviously value illegal immigrants more than legal immigrants. and the democrat is stuck.
Democrats need to fire this question back. "ok Ted, say you get your way and we close the border for the next 5 years, not one single illegal gets in. What are you going to do with the 12 million current undocumented people. Do you give them a path to citizenship, deported them, or keep them living in the shadows? What is your plan? Because I would give them all a path to citizenship and deport the ones that fail to meet it".
Make each and every republican commit to something, anything. Make them say they will deport everyone. Or make them come up with a path to citizenship.

The problem in your hypothetical is Cruz says 0 immigrants and is considered a hero and wins by 1 million votes. The problem isn’t politics it’s thd people. The people in this country are toxic racists.
Jason Kander just dropped out of the KC mayoral race because of PTSD and depression.

Fuck. That's terrible. I was rooting for him.
(Terrible about the ailments, to be clear. I could give a fuck less about a mayor's race. I just want him to be healthy.)

Pretty good:
I'm happy I was able to vote easily (absentee because I'm military) for Nevada -- for some seats that are winnable. Jacky Rosen taking out Dean Heller primarily.

I kind of unnecessarily (?) shit-talked the Republican candidate for governor here in Nevada and he actually liked the tweet, which threw me a little bit. Still a fucking twerp though.
ETA: Actually it wasn't his official account that liked it. Oh well. Twerp.
ETAA: Roberto's is like the Wendy's of taco shops out here. There's dozens of them, it's not bad, but not where you'd go if you wanted a real awesome taco (or burger as it were).

Oh, I know. The pic is hilarious. He's holding it like you'd hold a literal piece of shit if you were being forced to hold a piece of shit. Like he can't wait to throw it in the trash.

Tangent Alert:
I was watching TV the other day, and an ad included some dude munching on a taco, but he was eating it... How to describe? Top down, in the middle. Like, what the fuck is that shit?
Am I losing my mind? Is that some method I wasn't aware of??

Woman came to my door last night - she's running for the local nomination for the Conservative party for the election next year.
Nice enough, former teacher, volunteer etc., etc. I expressed some unhappiness with the Trudeau administration's handling of the pipeline out west, and she took that as a sign to start complaining about all the refugees who have come to canada (because "Trudeau lets anyone in") and who are living in hotels. (In fact, Toronto got so many refugees that there isn't room in social housing, so a number of them are being housed in hotels as an emergency measure. But make no mistake - these aren't Hyatts or Four Seasons hotels).
It was a well-rehearsed diatribe that led me to believe that this line of attack will be a part of the party's campaign strategy during the election. I was chilled and disgusted.

Did you let her know? I can't imagine how cathartic it would be to have someone like that come to my house and earn being my outlet.

Being on the righteous left is so much harder because we actually have rules we need to play by that the right doesn't. After learning about Collins's vote, I went to post that illustration of the GOP holding down about to rape the image of blind justice. I even pre-empted it with an apology to those who've experienced something horrific if it would trigger them. But then I immediately deleted it.
But if it was a Democrat who nominated a black man with the same accusations against him, and that illustration had black hands and the Democratic logo in those cuff links, that would be all over Fox News and conservative social media.

It's an issue though. Ontario and Quebec just voted in anti-immigrant governments. Will it carry over to the feds?
Your premier was in Calgary today. Anti carbon tax rally.

Oh, fuck the media by the way.
CNN with the big headline "Trump is on a winning streak."
Every time Trump calls CNN fake news Jeff Zucker cums his pants.
We are inching ever closer to a golden age for negative political ads though.
The current standard is the good old insane non-sensical smear spoken by a voice actor trying to sound like a growling Will Arnett:
"If Jacky Rosen is elected, she's going to put cyanide in our drinking water and sell the Las Vegas Strip to Argentina..."
The ending of this one is glorious. "TED!"

"Rafael" sounds like mocking him for being Latino.
"Ted" sounds like mocking him for being a pussy, which is pretty much the point of the ad. So given the context I like it. One syllable is usually preferable to three also.

Fair. And he just pussed out of debate number 2. Tough as Texas, my ass.

My GF hosted a Beto phone bank last night. 5 people came and they did calls for 2 hours.
Not sure it will make a bit of difference, but it made her feel good that she was actually doing something from here in the Liberal Bubble of Seattle.

Obviously I hope Beto can pull the shocker, but I really think it’s a mistake for Democrats to frame their arguments in terms of “toughness.” The whole idea that “toughness” is a key virtue for politicians will inevitably favor the GOP, which is the more authoritarian party. The best example I can think of for this is the 2004 Preidential race, where the Dems ran a bona fide war hero against someone who aggressively avoided combat — and yet voters who prioritized security issues broke heavily for Bush.

Beto isn't trying to win votes anywhere other than Texas. And while I'm not Texan, I presume that it's an argument that probably carries some weight in Texas.

You’d have to figure even a narrow victory by Cruz would be key as it drew resources to Texas to save a normally likely Republican seat, and away from other states.
