If I'm a stand up comedian going after politicians like Ol' One Eye, I'm saying what I got to say with middle fingers raised every fucking time. And when they get indignant I'm just saying "I'm just kidding! Stop being such a snowflake!"

Yet another accuser comes forward against Franken. Can't believe there's people who still believe this guy should not have been forced out of his seat.

it feels very weird and random to me that Betsy Woodruff and Jonathan Swan are now married but it also seems like everyone in DC media is dating/married to everyone else so maybe I shouldn't be that surprised

Not sure if this is the best thread, but some white Georgia Southern students didn't like hearing about white privilege so they decided to have a book burning.

No es bueno.

I read it the way the Mr. D did - that Takei was making a joke about how so many people grabbed the low-hanging fruit and repeatedly made the joke.

Thought this was too funny to leave in the rarely read "Canadian Politics Thread"

This guy was outside the advanced polling station in the rec centre in the nearby park when I arrived with Izzy for her morning walk at 8:30. Still there (in shorts no less on a 50 degree morning) 2 hours later.

It's hard to gauge the real level of support since the anti-independence bloc largely protested the referendum, and then walked out of the parliamentary vote.

I've always found the whole "refuse to vote, then say the result is invalid when the other side wins" kind of an alien thing when using US politics for reference. It would be like if half the country were Jill Stein voters.

My reaction is that the polyamory isn’t anyone’s business. However, having one or more affairs with staffers isn’t good. Hill is still very young, so it doesn’t seem Bill Clinton-level bad, but there’s just no way that a Congressperson and staffer are on equal footing going into a relationship. If you get a job working for a Congressperson then he/she obviously has a lot of influence over your potential future career opportunities such that it could be very awkward to reject his/her advances.

She has resigned.

Pretty dumb if you ask me. Republicans can do whatever they want and continue to serve with impunity. Just Google "Duncan Hunter."

But hey, integrity.

Um, yes? Integrity is a good thing, isn't it?

If she were in the Senate and there was a risk that she'd be replaced by a Republican, no way should she resign. But she's expendable, so I'm glad she's doing the right thing.

An affair with a staffer (regardless of gender) is never a good look.

That said...I hope her scumbag ex-husband and the various Right-Wing websites that have been publishing the pictures get busted for revenge porn.

"Integrity first" is the first of three core values in the AF. And I'll tell you what, the complete and total lack of integrity that people who outrank me get away with is awful. And if I get self righteous and refer to the rules when others want to break them and I end up getting in trouble means that integrity only exists when it serves those who are in positions of power.

So in this scenario, as noted above, a victim of revenge porn is forced into giving up her seat because it looks bad -- and it's hidden behind the thin veil of integrity.

This. Not because she had an affair, but it was with a subordinate.
