Wow, what a fucking lame copout by SCOTUS. While it might be moot wrt Trump, it is an incredibly important question to answer to set precedence for future Presidents. This just gives a green light to the next wannabe oligarch to cash in on the Presidency, since it takes more than 4 years to get the case decided. Not to mention, the issue of all the lost revue to Trump competitors who lost money due to Trump cashing in on his power as President. I don't know if the cases would have done anything to divest ill gotten profits or just prevent future abuses, so that argument may not hold any water. Just lame to drag that case out until it's no longer relevant. Curious what they would have done if Trump were reelected. Couldn't drag it out for another 4 years, so they probably would have found some miniscule technicality to say there was a lack of standing so they could avoid hearing the matter.

Their non-ruling was due to him not being in office anymore, this will be his same defense in the impeachment. The US has never impeached a non-standing President. Repubs will use this as an excuse not to convict him. It's a total waste of time to even have the hearing. He isn't going to get convicted.
