My wife's best friend just moved to Thailand so we're probably going there next summer. I'll have to see if I can get a non-stop flight out of Cheyenne.

Is the state the destination for the foreigners, or is the foreign country the destination of the state's residents? If it is the former, then Germany makes sense for Colorado. I've visited National Parks all over the western U.S. and Canada, and one truism has been that you see Germans on the trails and Japanese in the gift shops.

I understood as the state's residents visiting the foreign country. Otherwise the Wyoming thing is super legit weird.

See if you read the story and look at the top 5 for each state, if you remove Canada as an option for those states and Mexico for those states, it becomes a lot more interesting (Lebanon is #2 for Michigan for example, which makes sense given the huge Middle Eastern population there).

Everything about this map is appealing to me -- the premise, the execution, etc.

So I am a long way from anywhere - but I'm close to being an equally long way from about 7 or 8 teams.

Though as a lot of Tigers fans have pointed out, it inexplicably includes the Brewers in parts of Western Michigan that would require taking a car ferry across Lake Michigan to Wisconsin (which does exist), but even if you acknowledge that it's still a 2.5 hour boat ride which would make either the two Chicago teams or Detroit much closer by time.

It's pretty accurate that the 38th Parallel between Yankees and Red Sox is Hartford.

Other tiny favorite things. Despite playing only about 20 miles apart, there's still enormous swarths of real estate for both the Dodgers and the Angels.

Yeah, if you're driving from Grand Rapids to Miller Park, you would go right past Comiskey.

I do this kind of thing for towns to figure out where to put new fire stations. The first thing they want to know is how the travel time radius changes when traffic congestion is introduced. I'd like to see it for this map too, where the Diamondbacks come all the way over to about 3 miles east of Anaheim.

Unless you're taking these guys from Muskegon to Milwaukee in 2.5 hours. But the bullshit part of it is that you can (if you're timing it just right) literally drive from Grand Rapids to Milwaukee and only put about 50 miles on your car, but it's still going to take about 3.5 hours (at best) including the time on the ferry. Meanwhile, you can drive from Grand Rapids to Detroit or Chicago in about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic.

Reading this book for the second time. A look at the most remote islands on earth with one page stories based on real events that occurred on the islands.

A remarkable book.
