Dry January is worth it for how great that first 1/2 a beer makes me feel.DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 8:02 pmI had a cider and a glass of wine with dinner last night....

I still haven't cracked one open since I technically didn't start until Jan 2nd. I'm sure I'm going to need it tomorrow though after going to a viewing to support a friend who lost her 27-year-old daughter to addiction. Had beaten in for over four years, until her boyfriend fell off the wagon and OD'd right before Christmas. Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised when this news came last weekend. (Sorry to bring the thread down).
How do you all get your death notices since I left?

Ok reaper, I’ve avoided this thread a couple of times but have decided you’re not killing it. Hope everything is ok.
Anyway moved bars and managed to get the last seat at the bar but am out of cash so I’m officially in drink at least 2 beers everywhere I go mode.
Good news is if I get too drunk I can go back to the hotel and ruin the kid’s 7PM call with LaSalle.

Re: What?? Are you drinking?
Just mention you’re visiting Boston schools and La Salle isn’t going to draw lines over an intoxicated parent or two.
Re: What?? Are you drinking?
She actually effed up and the call was last night and I told her to apologize and tell them she’s visiting Boston this week and that seemed to work. Gonna do a Philly visit later in the spring, hopefully coinciding with her running at Penn anyway.

Re: What?? Are you drinking?
Hill Tavern? You were kind of a double kid, I bet, right? Huh? One kid with your daughter on a call with the coach from the Lasalle Explorers T&F program, one kid with her mother. You're upper-middle class during the year, then you're droppin' your "R"s and you're hangin' in the big, bad Cambridge Street area with your family during spring break. I got that right?rass wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 5:59 pmYou can’t attack me via text and swamp!cerranoredux wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 5:55 pmRass’s history in Boston drinking establishments circa 2004 is legendary in Jamaica Plain.rass wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 5:36 pm Ok reaper, I’ve avoided this thread a couple of times but have decided you’re not killing it. I love La Salle and always will. If she has interest from Brown and goes there I’ll invite you to the Van Gogh cafe and drive straight though the front door and into your table.
Re: What?? Are you drinking?
If nothing else credit the coaching staff there for putting in the legwork. After Rutgers they were the first school to reach out and show personal interest in her, and have kept up the conversation.mister d wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 9:49 pmI love La Salle and always will. Tried the Twisted Tea Half & Half (half tea, half lemonade) or more accurately the Arnold Palmer (which they can’t use?
). Anyway to make a long story short, it’s pretty damn good.

Yes! Drekker is top shelf. A friend was ordering them through Tavour and trading with me. Then a local brewery guest distributed them in a small scale and I could buy them on occasion. Now they are everywhere in NJ. Pricey, but worth it.

Hazy little thing IPA, but what’s noteworthy is the taxidermied African Lion wearing a saddle and a stuffed cobra rising up beside him in a bar in Edwards, CO

Only place I know always has them is a bigger place in Boulder, they show up here and there otherwise. Currently having a "Dad Nap" DDH DIPA from WeldWerks.

Re: What?? Are you drinking?
So, my wife likes to infuse lemons into gin to make … lemon gin! (She also does it with vodka). Tonight we had drinks of her invention:
In a shaker:
Muddle some basil and some cucumber.
Add Two shots of lemon gin (per drink)
Add one shot orange juice
Add one shot Orange liqueur (Cointreau or such)
Add one tbsp simple syrup or a sugar cube.
Whaddya think? Pretty good I think, but I’m not quite sober after a couple of them.

Just applied for two jobs teaching technology and being a librarian at two close schools. I was a systems librarian (IT) at CU and taught for years before I went to library school. Summers off!

you guys ever miss the days of lower expectations about ... everything?
i swear up until maybe 2-3 years ago i was *never* a "things were better when...." person - even though i'm unabashedly nostalgic, it was totally antithetical to the logical side of me.
now man... i don't know. currently in a funk because all this technology isn't working but of course it's not really about the technology, it's about how complex and nonstop and fast everything is.
i think i'm in the wrong thread.
(although...this may be the Scotch having a very strong/quick effect...)
