Wildcard Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Post by degenerasian »

So tonight we have a playoff to get into the playoff to get into the playoffs!

Reminds me of curling.

ANYWAYS! So ya got?

I never liked David Price, I think he gets rocked. 6-3 Rangers.

I enjoy watching Price pitch. Although this:

Price is 1-4 with a 5.98 ERA in eight regular-season starts against Texas and is 0-3 with a 4.66 ERA in three postseason starts.

. . . is difficult to ignore. I'll pick Tampa in the upset anyway. Oh, let's say 5-3. Although if Texas wins* at least the remainder of the playoffs will be on natural grass.

* The Rangers will be starting a Venezuelan. What's the record for no-hitters in a single playoff game to determine who gets to play in a single playoff game to determine who gets to play in the playoffs anyway?

More evidence that if I pick the Rays you should probably bet any farms you may own on the Rangers.

(I thought I saw Texas as a slight fav this morning; probably read it wrong)

Pitchers love it when you yap at the umpire after you take a called third, AJ Pierzinskasshole. You show that stupid umpire who's the boss; he won't take it out on your starter.

Oh, po-leeeze. Six damn umpires all miss that shit.

ETA: and the stupid TBS graphic makes the replay unwatchable for the audience.

If there were to be instant replay how would it work. If there is less than 2 outs the players dont run. Do you give everyone one base? With two outs you give the runner from 2nd home?

GFD.

Edit: I'm not happy with what happened, but Liriano was the perfect pitcher to make the reds look silly.

I MAY have to move the Pirates up my board. Especially since they are playing the evil ones from Missouri.

Hawk Harrelson is a finalist for the Ford Frick Award

Here is a better article

I love Duane Kuiper. But he is not a Hall of Fame announcer. Bill King is, any Hall of Fame you want to name (Touchdown, Raiders!!! Holy Toledo!)

Was Jacque Doucet that good? Are they serious about Dewayne Staats?

I've never seen Votto look that lost/confused/distracted on both offense and defense as he was last night. Did someone send hookers to his room the night before??

Staats is very good. Never makes it about him, carried Kevin Kennedy's ass for a year (old time swampers will remember my rants), and has a great rapport with Brian Anderson.

That being said, Scully would get my vote every year.

You may have him confused with someone. His wiki page doesn't mention a stint in the Bay area. Wiki is never wrong.

He was probably reading all of the hitting "advice" Reds fans have been offering the last few months.

I think it's best we just forget about 2013 and wait for good things to happen in Goodyear next February.

Jacques Doucet was not only great but he was the official scorer of the first year of the Expos. Montreal Royals games were never done in french, even at the stadium. It was considered an English Sport.

The Expos really introduced the francophones to baseball for the first time which means the entire terminology of baseball had to be translated. As you all know baseball has weird terms.

What the hell is a dugout? a bullpen? they needed words for this?

What's a shortstop.. we'll call him Arret-Cours
Outfielders, that's a Voltiguer

http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullp ... l_Glossary" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Jacques Doucet invented these words.

Thanks, I knew nothing about Doucet. That sounds like a hall of famer.

This foul tip call in the bottom of the first. I umpired hardball for nearly ten years, I could almost never make that call visually. Only by sound.

hmm I'm not sure that the fans are wrong, they're just wearing the colours of the team and the mascot.

It's the identity of the team and name that is wrong.

If they dumped Chief Wahoo, I wouldn't have an issue with "Indians". The Chief Wahoo logo is most definitely racist. But dressing up in "redface" is abhorrent. If they dressed up in blackface, they would have been likely beaten within an inch of their lives and deservedly so.

But there's no team with a black mascot.

I do understand that painting their faces red is insulting but is dressing up like an indian and not painting your face red any less insulting?

If I, a Vietnamese guy, attended a Cowboys or Stampeders game decked out in full cowboy gear, that would be just as ridiculous wouldn't it? Does it make a difference if I paint my face white or not?

If they had dressed up like an Indian in headdress, etc. it would have been offensive (to me personally and likely to native Americans), but it's not nearly as bad. There's obviously degrees. Your Cowboy example is pretty silly. It's like comparing apples to pomegranates. They're not a minority group that has been through the kind of genocide and treatment that native Americans have.

I'll give you an example. My college team is the Chippewas, but ANY kind of native American iconography is banned. Anyone trying to wear a headdress or arrowhead mask or whatever would never have been allowed in the stadium. If I were in charge of security at Progressive Field I would have kicked these guys out immediately.

And the reason that there's no teams with mascots named after black people is because it IS so obviously offensive. How anyone could conclude:

Iconography/nicknames reflecting racial caricatures of blacks - not OK
Iconography/nicknames reflecting racial caricatures of Asians - not OK
Iconography/nicknames reflecting racial caricatures of native Americans - OK

...totally eludes me.
