As many ridiculous road losing streaks as the Lions have, it's pretty nice that the Red Wings have laid some crazy ones on other teams. Like the Sabres not having won in Detroit since 1994. The Flyers had a 15 or so year one as well at one point though I think they broke it a year or three ago.

The Sharks have a young rookie playing on the top line named Tomas Hertl, who had two goals and an assist in the first two games. He is Czech and can't speak much English, so his post game quote Saturday was great, "this is crazy and I am happy!"

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Great article about Flames First Round pick Sean Monahan who in 3 games has 2 goals and 1 assist.

I hope they keep him for the season, he been excellent in his limited minutes. It would seem to me a waste to send him back to junior.

Ryan Callahan "scores", clearing the puck in a short-handed situation, as Jonathan Quick misplays an easy one.

I loved Joe Thornton's reaction when the goal went in.

He looked at the ref in shock "holy shit, did you see that?"

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere else, but Ilya Bryzgalov is apparently going to training camp with the ECHL team here in Las Vegas.

Pshaw. From what I read, I think the Shark they are angry at is Brad Stuart, for his elbow to the jaw of Rick Nash.

I know, right? I assume he's only here a month or two before he gets a gig in at least the AHL or some desperate NHL team signs him as an emergency backup, but still interesting that's he plying his trade in Double A.

I'm watching that game. Monahan looks good.

Didn't know until they showed the highlight, that Daniel Sedin did the Hertl between-the-legs shot for a goal, previously.

Now he's sticking up for his young teammate:
Hearing a question to Marleau about Hertl and whether he was showboating, Thornton said:

“Shut up, have you ever played the game?”

When the press turned his way, he then added:

“I’d have my cock out if I scored four goals. I’d have my cock out, stroking it.”

Backlash, not for Thornton, but the Vancouver media:

Dan Murphy‏@sportsnetmurph8m
Not sure 'ole Joe expected his joke to be published. He said it off camera while Marleau was in a scrum. Funny line, but OTR I thought.

Brodie Brazil‏@brodiebrazilCSN23m
Great job, Vancouver media: Things get said in jest all the time & are understood to be "off the record". Not surprised you'd print it.

Once upon a time I would have said that the clown-hockey goal Hertl scored against the Rangers has no place in the game. Once upon a time I would have been right to say so. Not anymore. That's what the game has become. It's as if the NHL started watching all the silly little tricks that players fiddle around with when practice has wound down for the day and decided "This. Yes, this. This is what we should be selling."

First off, Daniel Sedin did this in 2010 and it didn't get this kind of publicity. I can only guess it's because Hertl is a rookie. Second, why should it ever have not been legit? Because it's too flashy? It was a way to fake out the goalie and score a goal, and it worked. God forbid we disallow goals because they are too flashy. The only non-media guy I've heard bemoaning this is Adam Oates, who happens to coach one of the flashiest showmen in hockey, Ovechkin. Grumpy old men who don't want anything to change are the bastions of unwritten rules in baseball and hockey.

While I very much respect your opinion, using one of the Bobbsey Twins as an example doesn't exactly strengthen your argument. And, yeah, maybe I am getting old and get off my lawn.

I think anything done within regular time and speed is fine.
Great creativity, mind, and hands.

Anything done in the shootout is premeditated and stupid, cause the shootout itself is stupid.

The night before when Ottawa, on the road, roared back from 3-0 down in LA..

That's a tie. Ridiculous to taint that effort with a 3-shot shootout.

Get off my lawn!
