A friend of mine (caveman) busted out on the first hand. No idea why anyone would push all-in pre flop on the first hand of a tournament, but anyway …

(And a bonus: A geep sighting!)

I would guess that, with the tournament's pace, there are two parts to the decision. 1.) Playing becomes more tolerable when you have a larger stack early so you can push other players around and keep accumulating chips. 2.) Since it is a free, often tedious tournament, the risk of busting out is non-existent. (I say this as someone who has rationalized risky plays in this tournament in the past with "the downside is I don't sit and wait for something to happen.")

And now second in the tourney (which means absolutely nothing this early). Guy pushed all in with an open-ended straight draw and middle pair. I had top pair and an side straight draw and decided to call because I wasn't sure how into it I was this year. My top pair held and viola, some chips to move around.

My bro-in-law just had a K-high straight flush at Brian's table. He moved up to #23 overall.

I, on the other hand, have yet to take a single pot and have about half of my initial chips.

I won two small pots in the first few hands at this table, but ever since it's been fold fold fold.

We've played 30 hands in 56 days. I can't wait to move to a new table.

That's your brother in law? That was a crazy hand. He was going to win that one anyway (unless he got rivered), but the river was the coup de grace.

A handful of people in my company play the WRGPT every year. We have a side bet that whoever lasts longest in the tournament gets $5 from everyone else.

I found out today that one my colleagues was eliminated in mid-December by membengal. FURIOUS BEEF was at the table, too.

Thanks, TB!

I should have eliminated that guy, but screwed up the Bet/Call function and left him with about $1500. Bengal cleaned up the mess.

I'm now up to 2nd place in the tourney after calling a bluff on one hand (with only a pair of 5s myself), and then a double knockout with pocket Aces that held up.
