Ragnar Relay -Huntington Beach to San Diego - April 4-5

Post by brian »

We're resurrecting the idea of doing another Swamp relay race, this time from Huntington Beach to San Diego the first weekend of April. We've got some interest amongst myself, SpongeLikeNinja (and SLN's son) and some feelers out to a couple of the other folks who've run in these in the past like AB and Bobby Pentagonz.

http://www.ragnarrelay.com/race/southerncalifornia" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This isn't an especially demanding course and should have some pretty scenic legs including several oceanfront ones. It ends in downtown San Diego near the convention center/Gaslamp Quarter. The costs would be $110 per person for the race registration plus a split of other race costs (mostly van rental and gas for said van.), as well as travel costs like a hotel room near LA for Thursday night and in San Diego for at least Saturday night, though we can double up on rooms to cut down costs there.

If anyone has any interest or needs some more details, PM me or send me an e-mail to briandtw gmail.com

God damn that sounds fun.

Count me in.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Cool. I meant to e-mail you as I thought about you as well. Especially given that it's a pretty easy trip for you to get down there.

I am not much of a runner, but count me in for any social events. I can also help with logistics or any other non-running stuff you guys might need.

As I mention on a yearly basis, the course runs through my 'hood. I live off the 55 and 91 freeways (5th cross from starting line) and I work in Corona so you guys will also be running along my daily route to work.

What do the crosses indicate?

Its the distance between each leg of the course. A runner runs from one cross to the next, then the next runner takes over, etc.

The crosses are the exchange points where you give the baton from one runner to another.

I ran Huntington Beach to Coronado back in 2011. Out of the 11 Ragnars I've done I had to rate this one last. Not because of the location or weather or anything like that, but my team was meh and there were a lot of locals that stole the signs so it fucked up a lot of things. We actually didn't finish as a team and the final 3 runners of van 2 were driven to the end because they had run very far off course.

If I ran this with Swampers or with my Team BioFuel friends I'm sure I'd have a blast. I'd love to do this, truly, but I think what I plan on is an Easter/Ragnar Cape Cod leave in April/May. Trust you me if I were still in Tucson this would be automatic. (As would about 7 this year.)

Have fun, gents!

Apparently I am now on a team that will be running the Bourbon Chase. We were picked in the lottery on Friday. I feel like swamp folks have talked about that one in the past.

Who has two thumbs, had a cat get trapped in the storm drain and spent the morning laying on the road (which was covered in ice) like a broad in 15 degree temps?

That is fucking fantastic.

(I hope the cat was okay.)

The cat is fine. He found his own way out while I was walking up and down the street trying to find him. I had a 2x6 for a ramp but the ungrateful fucker just showed up as I was going inside to warm up before trying more drain openings.

Cats suck. (But I'm glad.)

I just emailed him to say hello. He came to Baltimore a few times and we had lunch and smoked a bit. Good guy.

Keg sends his love. Said he lurked the other day for the first time in a long time. He said he has two toddlers at home now and is crazy busy with work. Hopefully, he’ll check in soon.
