Jeez Syb, there are some things that the Swamp would be better off remaining blissfully unaware of.

Anyone else need Huey and the boys wash away the krokodil?

That's the stuff.

It was my PSA. I know Swampers are susceptible to falling into the new opposite of designer drugs. Remember the Ice and bath salts periods of the Swamp? Shit got weirdback in the early 90s and then again a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure that is how we lost Dem3, and Brooshkin.

*Upon research, Ice is the same thing as meth. I remember as a kid watching reports on the news of this new drug Ice coming in from Hawaii and starting to appear in the Southwest and into the Midwest.

That IS the stuff.

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, "No one smells more like marijuana than Huey Lewis". - Jesse Thorn

Ummm, remember? Not exactly. Those were heady days.

I had this on a vinyl 45 by its authors Exile (toobed right here). HLATN's version is a cover. And the video was kitschy by 80s standards even then.

Try and find a non-kitschy Huey Lewis video. I dare you.

I had no idea Heart and Soul was a cover. I hadn't thought about Exile in decades.

Workin' For a Livin'?

It is just them playing. Um, well I guess Huey's dancing on stage is always kitschy. That and bass player Mario Cipollina's profiling--but it is rare footage of him w/o shades.

I have a soft spot for these guys, because of the work Huey did with Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds; because there was a stretch when it seemed their prior band Clover was playing in Sacramento or Davis every other weekend and I caught them several times; and because of my hero worship of Mario's older brother John Cipollina, of Quicksilver Messenger Service. John died of emphysema almost 25 years ago, he'd only be 69yo today.

Do you like Huey Lewis and The News?

Paul Allen: They're OK.

Patrick Bateman: Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

When I was in high school, my sister gave me the CD of Fore! or maybe Sports. I never listened to it once. I always felt a little guilty about that, but man, I did NOT like that music. Plus, it was ALWAYS on the fucking radio, so really what was the point of owning your own copy.

It makes sense that the complete psychopath in the video above extols the virtues of the band. Of course, that was all in his warped head, right? Or were his weird music reviews actually real?

Why is Huey dressed like a target employee?

The WTF podcast with Huey Lewis is fantastic. He talked about being on tour with his band Clover in the UK and seeing the Sex Pistols live and thinking "Oh man....we are fucked".

forgot to post this. My wife went to the DreamForce conference a couple of weeks ago. This was an insanely over-the-top conference put on by SalesForce. During one of the sessions, the interlude music between speakers was Huey Lewis and the News. Not a recording, the actual band. They would play 30 seconds worth of music then fade out.

So, last weekend we had family movie night and queued up Back to the Future. Thanks to the Swamp, I was ready to identify Huey Lewis as one of the lame teachers judging the band auditions, the one who rejected Marty McFly, saying, "You're just too loud." Funny.

I don't know how I missed this thread before, but I have been to 3 Huey Lewis concerts in my lifetime. My Mom was a huge fan, and we had to listen a ton of him in the car on summer trips. To be fair one of the shows was a free concert after a Reds game at Riverfront Stadium, I don't think it was Cinergy Field yet, and I never paid for a ticket but did he put on a pretty decent show.

They were at Belterra Casino for New Years Eve a few years ago. Pretty good show. I was never into the music that much, but I did like the concert.

Caught up with a friend of mine from Pittsburgh over the last few weeks. He worked on a charity golf event/dinner for Mario Lemieux's foundation where Huey Lewis & the News where the evening's entertainment. Seems Mario is a big fan, but Crosby and some of the younger guys were asking, "who the fuck are these guys?"

Every time I open this thread, I am reminded how old and lame a group we are. I always think this is going to be about drugs, then realize it is actually about Huey Lewis.
