I know. Like I said, cussing.

(Agree there is a difference. Respectfully disagree that Hinson said anything remotely inappropriate in his presser. IMO. Were I his AD, I would pat him on the back, absent any other context I am not privy to.)

If anything, Hinson is receiving/will receive heat for singling out his point guard.

I was harping less on the inappropriateness, but more on the colossal whining. Is that what you want from your leader? Isn't his job to coach? Is it more likely that all 15 guys are "uncoachable" or that he's a shitty coach?

If your big men aren't getting good looks or converting the shots they do get, isn't your job to find another way to score? If your point guards are turning the ball over too much, maybe your offense sucks or you haven't coached it well enough to where they all know what they are doing.

It just sounded like a big hissy fit blaming everyone else for his team's failures. Not what I want from my coach.

Taken as a stand alone, it was fucking hilarious.

But any of my coaches had gone public with that kind of shit, forget about me playing hard or trusting the guy again. I'm transferring ASAP.

I agree with Hemphill... Bitch move to do that publicly, and he comes off as unhinged. It's pretty damn early in a season to punt. Good luck with that.

His bluegrass band and albums are seriously awesome. I guess you just can't appreciate it, as there is no bass.

UC Davis student organization holds a block party that included shocking sumo wrestling costumes
Tsuchitani went on to say that he was not pleased by ASUCD’s apology and called for more action from the association.

“It is pitiful that the ASUCD would pathologize the so-called victims as in need of treatment instead of reflecting more deeply on what is needed to address ASUCD’s own failure in this situation,” Tsuchitani said. “From my limited perspective, I would suggest that the foremost need for treatment might well be for cultural competency training for ASUCD itself. That is much more relevant here than any Orientalist history of sumo wrestling.”

Tsuchitani was not the only student who felt victimized and upset by the sumo suits. Phil Jones, a fourth-year economics student, said that he was shocked by the sumo wrestling event at the Block Party. He also claimed that the sumo wrestling showed insensitivity to overweight Americans.

“To be honest, I was shocked. February 19 was Remembrance Day for Japanese internment during WWII, and some of my Japanese friends were heavily traumatized by seeing their culture mocked in such a clearly racist fashion,” Jones said in a Facebook comment on the Block Party’s event page. “Not to mention, as a Heavy-American, I don’t appreciate the blatant Fat-Shaming involved with caricaturing one of the few sports traditionally enjoyed by Heavy individuals. I honestly feel reparations payments are in order to affected individuals, and that those responsible for the grossly negligent oversight should immediately resign from their ASUCD posts.”

phhhttt I've participated in a sumo-suited fun wrestling event.

It is not easy to move around in those things. Need to be in pretty good shape to do any takedown moves or get enough of a running motion to run someone over. Fat-asses could not do that.

My first reaction was 'please don't be on my street' because more and more houses in the hood are being rented to students, and property values, man (yes, MF-NIMBY!)

But, how is it a block party if it is on the Quad, ffs? This kind of reaction is old hat for Davis, I suppose since now Asians are a majority of undergrads, the dynamic is different. (Those sensitive to fat shaming had a majority of the distaff back in my day.) But, give me a damn break.

Sorry, Asian plurality. 37% to 28% white, 19% hispanic (3% black; we ain't overcoming here.)

eta: almost forgot, fuck ASUCD. Bunch of sticks up their asses pre-law pricks. Student government was much mellower and fun at UCSB.

A sign of a small mind is the inability to see irony.
"There is so much racial slurs in there and offensive wording that you can’t get past that, and right now we are a nation divided as it is."

Calgary Math scores on the decline, public schools doing worse than catholic schools
The effects of the adoption of inquiry-math are particularly striking in Calgary Board of Education (CBE) schools, where data shows a dramatic increase in children failing math from grade 6 to grade 12. Math scores have fallen rapidly at CBE and are now significantly lower than those of the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD). Some key statistics paint a startling picture of poor math performance and a concerning downward trend:

There are more students failing than achieving excellence on the Grade 6 Math Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) – a dramatic reversal of fortune under the leadership of current CBE trustees.
CBE schools have an average failure rate over 50% higher than CCSD schools on the Grade 6 and Grade 9 Math PATs. The CBE’s Grade 9 failure rate is also 14% higher than the provincial average.
For you guys with kids in school, do you find that generally the scores are decreasing or are there different styles of teaching today?

Really hard to judge - in Ontario the scores have been stable since they introduced standardized testing a decade ago.

Not surprisingly in Toronto, the schools that do best on these tests are in low poverty areas.

(Both my kids stopped taking math after grade 10)
