Leaves are falling all around...

Post by P.D.X. »

Blowing this popsicle stand. Accepted a position at a firm in Boulder for more $ and better projects. Been in Portland for 14 years, and can't say it wasn't a gut-wrenching decision. Will be U-hauling it, Thanksgiving week, just a man and his gay dog.

Rush, you'll have to show me the ropes.

W.B.U. Boy?

Congrats on the new job, eh. That sounds very exciting. And, oh man, soon! Guess it won't be a leisurely packing up?

Right on man. It's a fantastic place...aside from the buskers that have more in their bank accounts than you do.

Well, he's used to that from Portland.

True.

PDX are you planning on living in Boulder? If not I'd look in Lafayette/Louisville/Superior/Broomfield. 10-20 minutes from Downtown Boulder and about 1/2 the price in rent and/or purchase price.

Let me know if you need any ground work run, I'd be happy to help.

Funny, there is only one Papa Johns in Boulder (basically down the road from CU.) [If you want pizza here you go to Beau Jo's.]

Thanks. And no, nothing leisurely about the next couple weeks. Especially with MLS playoffs and (hopefully) one more OSU game in the mix. But, my place here is a whopping 460 sq ft, so not a lot of stuff to move. The big challenge is getting the flat up to snuff and on the rental market asap.

Enjoying Papa Johns is an oxymoron.

Congrats on the new gig, seems to be a running theme lately. Just today I weaseled my way out of a business trip to Boulder next week. While I'd love to go to Boulder, it seemed a bit of a waste of time for something that could be handled with a 15 minute conference call.

Yeah, I already locked in an apartment in downtown Boulder. Housing seems to be a bitch around there, and I ended up paying more than I really wanted to. On the plus, it's an 8-month lease, so I can shop around a bit when school's out for the summer.

When we were looking places often cost just as much or more than when we lived in a "hot" area of Boston, and not nearly as nice. Though that was after the school year binge.

Nice thing about downtown (and 75% of Boulder) is that it's easy to get around via alternative forms of transportation so what you spend in rent will be saved through not driving. Plus CU has a very very deep talent pool that spends a lot of time downtown/on the hill so that gay dog might be helpful. Wink wink.

Out of curiosity (and if you don't find it rude to ask), how much are you thinking you're going to rent your place in Portland for?

Yeah, I was there last weekend and got to scope things out a bit. I'll be about a 20 min walk from work and like 10 mins from the Pearl pedestrian mall thingy.

I'm hoping for ~$1250, based on comparables in the neighborhood.

Thanks. I'm toying with the idea of moving to either Portland or Asheville in six months to a year and if I moved to PDX would love to live downtown. Too bad you weren't moving in a year or so or else I might have talked to you about being your tenant. Good luck with the move.

Thanks. And hopefully I'll be back in PDX often. Not giving up my Timbers season tix.

You guys are making me nostalgic for Colorado (although I never lived in Boulder). Going to be in Littleton that weekend, for the holiday, and especially, my brother's wedding on that Saturday (best man - but alas, no bachelor party.). So, no time to hang out this trip.

Congrats on the job and the move, PDX.

Colorado sounds nice, but I don't think I could ever live that far from the mountains.

Suggesting that I live in the one place in the country where the mountains are closer than they are if you live in Colorado. Though looking at the map, Boulder is pretty damn close to the mountains. So never mind.

Old man that I am, I just get the Mamas and the Papas in my head whenever I read the thread title.

And that doesn't even make much sense.

There may be a place or two around the Pepsi Centre that we can get a beer. Probably only swill available though.

One of my favourite things about driving into Boulder nearly everyday is the sun painting the Flatirons (first range of the Front Range) all different shades of gorgeous.
