Toronto Argonauts Statement: It's well-known that the Mayor is a big fan and supporter of the game of football.

The Toronto Argonauts organization is not in a position to comment on the manner of dress of public officials.

The situation with respect to the Mayor and his leadership is unseemly at best. These latest remarks, while wearing our team's jersey,

are particularly disappointing given our organization's work in the community to help youth deal with issues of bullying prevention.

We hope for the benefit of the wonderful citizens of Toronto and this great city that this situation is resolved expeditiously.

I can tell you that I have never seen this city quite like it is at the moment. We are all waiting for him to either resign, drop dead or have an alien pop out of his chest or...

Great thing about Toronto is at the moment, the economy is in good shape. The garbage is being picked up. And the weather is even half decent.

So - and this is a happy coincidence because our Mayors do not have the level of power that they do in many other cities - I can't wait for what tomorrow will bring. That is if, and it's a big "if," the derelict actually shows up at city hall.

Oh, here's our mayor as he appeared at a fundraiser several months before the crack story broke.

I never thought it would be possible for a major city to have a bigger drunk for a mayor than Oscar Goodman*, but yeah. Toronto wins.

*Goodman most famously being the only mayor in history with an endorsement contract from a liquor brand (Bombay Sapphire) after causing an uproar by answering a question from a group of grade schoolers that the item he'd most like on a desert island was said gin.

Huh, he seemed like such an upstanding a professional leader.

It's a shame Ford isn't the mayor of NYC. I would have bought a subscription to the Post.

He's actually pretty awesome. And the LV mayor job has no real power anyway, it's basically just a figurehead/cheerleader position.

Ford's wife Renata (aka "The Buffet Table"), is rarely seen in public, but suffice to say the marriage has had some rocky patches...

(From the National Post):

Although the Ford household has projected an image of stability over the past few months — even as Mr. Ford spirals into an ever-deepening pit of alcohol and drug allegations — it was only five years ago that a 911 call from Renata Ford prompted Mr. Ford to be led away from his house in handcuffs.

Police charged the then councillor with domestic assault, but the Crown later withdrew the charges due to “inconsistencies” in Ms. Ford’s story.

Only hours before the 911 call, Mr. Ford’s lawyer later told the press, Mr. Ford himself had called police over his wife’s “irrational, out-of-control behaviour.”

The Ford family has deep football roots. The mayor served as a volunteer high school football coach with the Don Bosco Eagles until he was dropped by the Toronto District Catholic School Board last May.
Krista Ford, the mayor's niece and the daughter of city councillor Doug Ford, was a captain of Toronto's short-lived team in a lingerie football league.

Earlier, the mayor took off running after brother Doug Ford got into a verbal argument with the crowd, hitting veteran Councillor Pam McConnell, knocking her backwards, before catching her and helping her steady herself. McConnell, a grandmother, would later be seen in council icing her lip.

And this explains the gif of the mayor making drinking and driving motions.

Mayor Ford made a drinking and driving gesture towards Councillor Paul Ainslie, drawing a rebuke from the council speaker, after his brother, Councillor Doug Ford, accused his fellow councillors of personal transgressions.

Ainslie received a warning from police this spring after he was pulled over by a RIDE spot check. He was not charged. Mayor Ford admitted last week to drinking and driving after a police document said staffers alleged he would sometimes drink while driving.

But there may be hope on the horizon for everyone's favourite Torontonian:

This guy is the gift that keeps on giving. He is creating the work for comedians and journos and just handing it to them. Here is a clip of Howard Stern discussing the lunacy. Around the 2:45 mark Stern plays a clip from a Toronto radio show in which a caller defends the mayor. Shortly into the conversation, the DJ realizes that it is, in fact, Mayor Ford on the line pretending to be a supporter. Who the fuck does this? I feel so sorry for his lawyers and advisers, assuming he has any. This is so far from a believable story if it was in a sitcom. what will this clown pull next?

No kidding, eh? When Hollywood gets around to doing the inevitable biopic on Rob Ford, one film won't suffice. It will be multiples longer than the Harry Potter series.

Can't recall a politician, or any public figure really, about whom it was nigh on impossible to keep up; so numerous his follies.

Stewart, as did many, called the pussy eating at home comment a microphone dropping walk-off moment. Which it was. Yet, oh my, his honor hasn't even got to the encores yet.

During yesterday's ridiculous city council meeting Ford - who let us remember is the leader of this great city - directed his security guard (who was on the floor of the council chambers which is against the rules) to video tape the members of the public who were chanting at him. Intimidation, and bullying...

The other day Ford went to the Argos playoff game where he was swarmed by fans wanting to get their picture taken with him. Ford's brother claimed that the mayor was treated like a rock star, but if you see the footage, most of the fans surrounding the mayor appear to be young guys who are laughing. It really hasn't sunk in on these morons that his fame and "popularity" is of the ironic type. And these two jackasses are incapable of getting the joke.

Ford has basically been stripped of his powers and staff. The city of Toronto will have its government run by the Deputy Mayor and the city council.

Look for Mayor (in name only) Ford to become one of Toronto's top tourist attractions as he stumbles through City Hall berating members of the media, the police and the "elite" who have created all of his problems.

If he's still alive and is running for Mayor again, I will be running a side business selling "Ford for Mayor" signs and buttons on ebay. But for now and for all intents and purposes, Rob Ford has a lot more time on his hands.

Last week the United Way and the mayor sold a couple thousand Ford bobblehead dolls as a fundraiser at city hall. They went for $20 each.
