At what point can the opposing team begin to sweep a rock? After the line dissecting the circle?

I'm getting the impression that the US women's curling team isn't very good. They just gave up 7 in the 4th end against Great Britain.

Erika Brown. She actually is very good; participated in the "World Curling" Vegas event Brian and Rams Fanny went to. Bear in mind she gave up seven in one end to the best women's team in the world: Eva Muirhead, Scotland (it's Scotland; there's no such thing as Great Britain in curling) and that the ice has been terrible in Sochi. And the rocks are awful. And the fans are clueless. For example, they have airhorns. If you caught the Russia/USA womens game yesterday (last night) you'd have heard an air horn going off the instant Brown was about to deliver each of her rocks. That is akin to someone yelling BAAAAA!!!!!! when you're about to putt in golf. That exact same idiotnoise is happening when the Canadians play as well. Go figure.

Not in person. She's a lovely lass. Your Swamp then-Vancouver contingent met her in 2010 at the World Juniors.

And you can't go by those "wimminz of curling" glam photos or you'd start to think that Chelsea Carey really looks like this:

Yet one more reason Canada is better than the US. I saw videos of this. Put in a Canadian passport, fridge opens up. How friggin' ingenious is this.

Yeah, that's an advertising campaign. But apparently there is one real one in the Canadian House at athlete's village. Sort of. But not exactly like that.

Athletes don't have their passports lying around where they can use them. During the Olympics, all passports are in the hands of the Canadian Olympic Committee, under safe (literally) keeping. I suspect the same precaution goes for all countries.

Cute thought though.

USA gals ran outta gas early in the third. I'm a novice hockey fan, but that said, a very watchable game.

Despite his size, Zdeno Chara's head is way too big for his body. Bochy-esque.

Hockey has started! no surprise the Czechs are down 2-0 early to the Swedes.

Czechs have assembled the worst possible team. Petr Nedved? on the first PP? They're not even playing Pavelic in net, they're playing some KHL goalie. And the coach's son-in-law is getting decent ice time on defense.

I know I'm no expert but it seems to me Erika Brown is killing the US curling team. And is there a good site to find the standings? Every site that came up on google (that I pulled up at least) just had a schedule/results page.

Yes, it is seriously frustrating that sites like the CBC (or even the main Sochi site) don't have the damn standings for curling. Fortunately, the BBC does:

Men: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/winter-olympics/23970498" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wimminz: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/winter-olympics/23970499" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And, yeah, I had to check two dozen places that didn't have the standings before I finally found that.

what's been bad about it? I've enjoyed it. As you said, there are 12 channels and you can watch a full replay of anything you missed with no commentators!

men's standings: http://olympics.cbc.ca/curling/event/men/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
women's standings: http://olympics.cbc.ca/curling/event/women/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
click on 'round-robin'

I never knew there was a mercy rule in curling. The US women lost 12-3 against GB after only 6 ends.

There is no mercy rule, the team behind can choose to quit anytime when they feel they are too far behind.

They can't figure out the ice or the rocks. Problem for Brown is that everyone else is figuring out the behaviors before they are.

It takes a team effort to give up seven in one end. You only get eight rocks. For the other team to score seven, your team has to miss pretty much everything.

Did you know that it takes an entire nation to create a hockey star?

That without Moms, no athlete can make it to the games?

That parents are the greatest heroes?
