The last time . . . they were, uh, booked into 10,000 seat arenas and 15,000 seat venues and it seems that now on their current tour they're being booked into 1,200 seat arenas, 1,500 seat arenas, and I was just wondering does this mean . . . the popularity of the group is waning?

No, just that their audience is dying.

Discussion with John Oates on "She's Gone", via Grantland.
I was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions when you were inducted and everyone was like, “This should have been done ages ago.” Is it as much of an honor as it seems?

No. It really isn’t. It’s OK, it’s great. Everyone mentions it, everyone wants to talk about it, that’s fantastic. But to be honest with you, it’s a really subjective group of people making decisions on music based on their particular point of view, and it doesn’t necessarily represent really what this giant incredibly expansive world of music is all about, by any means.

Nice intervew.

I'm not a Hall & Oates fan. I hated them in the mid 70s. They represented a lot of what was going wrong with music at the time.

But 'She's Gone' was a great pop song. I knew that from the first time I heard it. Everything about it was great, like some of the classic Motown songs -- writing, singing, playing, production. It's so rare when each of these elements comes together at the same time.

From my point of view, H & O went into a steep vertical decline after that. Too bad more women didn't dump John Oates.

My wife did get me tickets, though she waited until the show was pretty much sold out so she probably paid more than I would have liked, but I'm grateful!

However, she hates hates hates Hall and Oates (which I don't get exactly because she doesn't have an issue in general with 80's pop) and while she didn't seem exactly enthusiastic about the concert, I didn't realize the depths of her hatred until she gave up her seat the first chance she got. We were out to dinner with mr and mrs cerrano on NYE, and when H&O came on the radio in the bar, he mentioned that he had been listening to a lot of their early stuff lately. I mentioned I had gotten tickets for Christmas, and turned to my wife and made a joke about cerrano loving H&O and her hating them and she all but handed him her ticket right then and there.

So now my mom is coming up to watch the kids, but my wife will be home anyway and I'm heading into The City on Friday with cerrano. At least I know he'll let me get him drunk.

I was in Berlin, Ohio last week. It's a small town in Holmes County, which hosts the largest Amish community in the country. I think it's safe to say neither Hall nor Oates are Amish.
