Cardinals DC Todd Bowles removes himself from consideration for the Browns' HC job.
At this rate, Tressel will be the coach. Or maybe Gerry Faust.

Say, isn't that Shanahan fellow available?
I wonder if the Browns offices are like the Overlook hotel in The Shining.

Kellen Winslow Jr was allegedly jacking it in a Target parking lot
His car was littered with Vaseline and empty synthetic marijuana packages. That Target is just a mile or two away from where I work. The Boston Market is back in the other direction on the same side of the highway as Target. Navigating jug handles (that same road still has a traffic circle, too) while sober is bad enough, so I can't image trying to do it high.

Jebus. What is with the comments arguing that your car is private property and the gov't can't regulate masturbating in your car? Never used vaseline, but do you really need 2 jars of it? What is he, Visanthe Shiancoe?

Re: NFL Offseason Thread
I know the Browns are apparently quite fucked up, but a good coach could look great in a very short time with that roster. It's the perfect job - decent roster in place outside of the QB, which you get to pick. An offensive coach's dream, no?

Well, the thing is that the offensive coach you alluded to earlier was fired after one season. There had to be some other reason for his firing that will probably eventually come out.Gunpowder wrote:Bills defense was pretty good last year. I don't see what's so !!! about that.
It doesn't matter. IF they can't be good when the Bengals are the best team in the division it probably never will happen.

Re: NFL Offseason Thread
Typically coaches are hired from teams that have better than a 6-10 record no matter the statistics of the particular unit they coached.
While "pretty good" the Browns' D was slightly better in terms of total D. Defense seems to be in very good hands. Don't know if he'll keep Norv as OC, but common perception was that they would have gone with a offensive minded coach, unless they want to try to win 6-3.

Bill Belichick was hired away from the 8-8 Jets. I don't care what typically happens, as most typical football decisions are stupid and anyone not retarded is considered to be "innovative".

Well 8-8 IS better than 6-10.
And I agree. I guess it would have been more correct to exclaim after DC rather than before.

Maybe they want a DC so they can hire an OC that will work with Johnny Cleveland. All I can figure.

Well, Belichick had previous head coaching experience and took the Browns to the playoffs, so that's not really a fair comparison.Gunpowder wrote:Rush2112 wrote:Typically coaches are hired from teams that have better than a 6-10 record no matter the statistics of the particular unit they coached.

Pettine coached under Rex Ryan, who got the plaudits for their defensive performance. That he was able to field a top-5 defense in Buffalo does bode well. But I was surprised they didn't go for an offensive guy as well.

They were certainly not #4 according to a guy who watched 12 of their games this year.Keg wrote:They were #4 according to Football Outsiders:

The fact that the 49ers defence is ranked mid-table, behind the bills, and the Giants (who gave up 11 more points than the 49ers - a touchdown per game), tells me that these stats are fun, but meaningless.

10th in yards and 20th in points allowed, but they ranked 4th in sacks which is nice (Jacksonville! was 2nd!)Pruitt wrote:They were certainly not #4 according to a guy who watched 12 of their games this year.Keg wrote:They were #4 according to Football Outsiders:

Re: NFL Offseason Thread
Sorry, but DVOA is hardly meaningless. It takes context of EVERY play into account and adjusts for opponent strength. You want to know what's meaningless -- ranking defenses by yards allowed (and to a lesser extent, points allowed). That's meaningless.Pruitt wrote:They were certainly not #4 according to a guy who watched 12 of their games this year.Keg wrote:They were #4 according to Football Outsiders:
