Here's my Sunderland documentary in its entirety. A film that is an examination of what drives fans to keep cheering a team that season after season, spots opponents a 24 game head start before snapping into life and dodging the Moon Door of Relegation by a whisker. What a city Sunderland is -- Proud, passionate and Stoic. As one of the fans at the end of the film says "Imagine if we had a team that was actually GOOD!" It was great to work with Jermain Defoe, John O'Shea and Lyden Gooch, but there are TWO SCENES I really love:
-- Club Chaplain, Father Marc Lyden-Smith in which we discuss the Theology of Football, and ponder what if God supports Hull City (at 27:41)
-- The Sunderland Themed Sausage makers at Stirks Family Butchers, purveyors of the John O'Shea (Sausage made with Guinness) The Borini (Italian Sausage) the Big Sam Burger and the Mannone Meatball ( at 38:11) which to me is what football is all about: Sausage.
Let me know what you thought of this beauty. I had a blast making it. If you like it... please share it. The more it is seen, the more we can make.
Don't sweat the 1-0 U-20 loss to Panama in the US-20 World Cup Qualifying tournament...because the US National Beach team won its opener in the Concacaf championships 8-1.

US Beach Team goes 3-0 in the group stage. Take on Panama this evening in the Quarterfinals
U20s v. St. Kitts. Us likely goes through on a win (goal difference) or Panama beating Haiti. Haiti goes through if US loses and they can muster draw (or some crazy goal differential scenarios)

Well, if St. Kitts leaves Nevis at home, we have a chance.

2017 Euro Carpet Bagger Schedule starting
Barcelona v. Man U @ FedEx. Let me see if i can get this right. Tickets will be INSANELY expensive for a preseason friendly. Traffic will stink and F' putting $ in Dan Snyder's pocket https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/soc ... ab6a5e065d
MLS is trying to get Real Madrid as the All Star Game opponent. And I don't care what you say the MLS all star game is the best all star format out there....because they try
Barcelona would also play Juventus on July 22 in the New York area and Real Madrid on July 29 in greater Miami
USA v. Mexico at U-20s tonight at 5 (I think these are available on FB)
USA Hasselhoff team finished 5th in the CONCACAF Beach championships. A 6-4 loss to Panama in the quarter finals was the only blemish on the USA effort. Panama beat Mexico for the title. The highlights are pretty interesting. Shots purposely driven at the sand to take funny hops. USA goalie is Chris Toth, son of MISL Legend Zoltan Toth.

strange format for this tournament, usually it would be 8 teams in the QF, win your QF and you're in the World Cup. This format has more games.

I know others have asked this but why isn't there a chip in the footballs again? Game of inches yet guys pretty much randomly spot the ball on every play. They don't even walk a straight line from the sidelines when the spot it.

The spots on "regular" plays bother me a lot less (though I think there's vast room for improvement) than with fourth down and goalline plays. Seems like the technology would be pretty easy to implement on just those situations alone (combined with instant replay of course) to get the most important spots right.

How could a chip determine when the player is down? So much of football replay is figuring out the precise moment the ball carrier is down.
More interesting note on the play, at what point did it go in? This video suggests the goalie saved it, then pulled the ball over the line while picking it up. It may have crossed before. It looks like he punched the initial shot down off of his leg, and it bounced backwards. Doesn't get any closer than that.
1) Pretty clear to me that the ball doesn't go in until he "puts it in the bank" (my goalie coach term for hugging the ball to your chest... normally you do that with two hands standing up.) And yeah, without technology that NEVER would've been a goal. No way. I'm not even really sure how I feel about it, because it seems kind of bullshitty to me, but whatever.
2) Regarding the spots in soccer... It's just not equivalent to american football on any real level. Have I been annoyed by a spot where the ref places the ball 4 yards closer to my goal, which now means I have to worry about a cross AND a shot? Sure, but a) that's not really a very common issue and b) part of the game is the referee's discretion on when the foul occurred and when it is necessary to let the play proceed to see if there is an advantage.
As noted, a chip wouldn't solve any of that. And, again, it's just not typically a very big issue in terms of the impact on a game.

Like I said would have to be used in conjunction with video replay so its utility would be close third/fourth downs and goalline situations. But even that would be a massive improvement. There are literally like hundreds of plays a year across the league where there's a question on if a guy breached the goal line. A huge light coming on somewhere if the ball passes the plain would be a great start.

Now, if we're talking american football.... Yeah, I can think of one fucking example where I'd be down with a chip and yard marker technology, not just at the goal line. :D

Right, seems like it would be pretty easy to extend technology to have lasers on the first down sticks as well. Officials reviewing a spot and see via some kind of notification/light (similar to the watches for soccer refs) exactly when (or if) a ball passes the first down/goalline plain. This technology would cost next to nothing and yet the NFL still doesn't seem to fucking care.

Still haven't seen any explanation of what the ref was doing/saying after the last PK. Looked like he was going to card the penalty taker, but there was no yellow card (that I saw) on the match report.

My hunch is the ref did not realize the U.S. had won it. He writes down each kick and may not have realized that was the fifth kick and U.S. went last. So when he went into his book he figured it out.
Replay of pulisic goal against Leverkusen on replay Fox sports south. Made the play in build up too. Is he already most accomplished us international field player? As is obvious, arena needs to ride him. Nice little departure gift.
Eta looks like lots of national team guys got bundesliga goals this week.

Clearly a different player. I actually think the U.S. has a few younger player who play his style and are fighting to break into their teams in Europe. "Most Accomplished"...not so sure. Reyna had some pretty goo success. Steve Cherundolo played 16 years for Hannover 96 and was their captain, and Bobby Convey had 98 appearances for Reading (a majority of which was as a starter in the Premier League). They named the bar after McBride at Craven Cottage and Beasley had 4 goals in 12 Champions League games with PSV (including a great run to the CL Semifinals)---he was brought in to replace Arjen Robben on the squad. You also have Harkes pretty good run in England (Goal of the Year) and Jay DeMerit's run at Watford (Which also had him as a captain sometimes).

How do you miss Dempsey as the career leader in goals for Fulham?

Because they did not name the bar after him....McBride wins
I started to respond to this the other day and got distracted.
One of the guys that is almost always ignored on these "best of the yanks abroad" lists is Bobby Convey. He had a damn good run over there with Reading, helping them get promoted.
Not sure if this list is accurate (https://www.sporcle.com/games/keketi/to ... al-scorers) and american seems to mean Americas but can you name these US Champions Leage goal scorers (# of goals to left)? wlulax gave us one. Put in a spoiler by the clubs to make it harder. Guess theres a new name on the list now.
Not sure if you saw but the Refs did not post this week in Liga MX. Well their strike resulted in longer penalties for "Attacking" the ref. I agree for bans. One year is harsh for the hand on the ref (Especially when the goalie right after put his hands on him). http://www.espnfc.com/mexican-liga-mx/s ... ike-source
1.) England missed a number of juicy chances yesterday against Germany
2.) Podolski's goal was a beauty. Impressive in his last outing for the national team.
