Please don't hate on me for talking MLS, but I went to my first TFC game over the weekend. I had heard over the years that the atmosphere here in Toronto was insane and ended up being totally underwhelmed. I guess years of being atrocious would affect the fans of almost any team, and apparently it's really slipped. Not a soccer fan at all, but even with the toned down atmosphere I think it's something I could get into here. There are worse things one can do on a summer evening.

Not sure I follow. Are you saying that a worse thing to do on a summer evening would be attending a Lions pre-season game? Because if so, that would certainly be correct.

A little asskicking will do this team good. Take some air out of the party balloon.

Yup. Also doesn't hurt that this is a B team (though some of the supposed "A" players are sucking ass too.)

I don't think this result is going to deflate the balloon very much.

Kind of the US to spot the 13th ranked Club in the world 2 goals. Sporting of us.

And in Europe no less. You can probably count the number of wins the US has in our history in Europe against legit European teams on two hands. Maybe one.

Yup. Tuck in being behind 2-0 and you can reduce it to, I think, this-is-a-first.

All I need is someone to pull up that Klinsmann thread I started.
I am most certainly fully on board at this point...

I still insist Eddie Johnson cannot, CANNOT, be trusted with starting in a game that matters.
Even in CONCACAF.
If he starts in San Jose or Columbus next month, he could give you a goal or two...or cost you the same.
EPL on NBC. Just Not The Same Ring as NBA on NBC.

Hey Gooners:
Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. I think we have been homophobically insulted.
By my reckoning, that puts 3 of the 4 members of Brazil's possible World Cup starting midfield at White Hart Lane.
Sad to see Bale go, but the team sure as hell has spent the money wisely.
When I travelled to London in 2007, I saw a game at the Lane - in the lineup for Spurs that day were two Egyptians, a Finn, a Canadian and the slowest South Korean player ever to make it to Europe.
A sign of how much the EPL has improved - that Spurs team finished fifth, but even with these massive signings, most pundits wouldn't pick Spurs higher than third.

Why are Canada, Mexico, nor the US playing in the U-15 Concacaf championships currently going on in the Cayman Islands? <cheap shot>I mean I understand why Canada may not have qualified but the U.S. and Mex?</cheap shot>

Apparently the US is playing in the Copa Mexico de Naciones at the same time (US head coach is Ankle Bitter Richie Williams)
Lost to Brazil 1-0, Beat Panama 4-0, beat Uruguay 3-1 in the group, beat Costa Rica 1-0 in the Quarters, and lost to Uruguay 2-0 in the Semis and plays Paraguay on Sunday for 3rd place.

Spurs spending spree continues.
The spending by Tottenham indicates Bale's £86m move is all but ratified as Lamela joins Roberto Soldado (Valencia), Paulinho (Corinthians), Nacer Chadli (FC Twente) and Etienne Capoue (Toulouse) in André Villas-Boas' squad.
Of Spurs starting 11, only Michael Dawson, Kyle Walker and Aaron Lennon were with the team two seasons ago.

if you have nothing to do for the next hour and you have bein sport, check out the valencia-fcb match which just went to the half 2-3.
messi already had a hat trick before valencia scored 2 in the last 7 minutes of the half. this is an incredibly exciting match.

This is a fun story. btw - Los Altos, CA is just down the road from San Carlos. Just south of Palo Alto.
LOS ALTOS HILLS -- Joshua Pynadath's sixth-grade year won't be anything like his classmates' at St. Nicholas School in Los Altos.
This week, the 11-year-old soccer phenom became the first American player to join the youth academy of Real Madrid, perhaps the most successful club in history.
Joshua's family has moved to Spain for a year to take advantage of a chance few American youths get: experiencing the atmosphere of training with a renown European team. The assignment is all the more impressive considering Real's emphasis on developing Spaniards...(more)
