Hey, I said it was a nit. Good point that rephrasing risks detracting in another fashion.

I think coming out now, rather than later, makes common sense. Now, nobody can say they didn't know what they were signing up for. No GM can fume after the draft about not knowing the situation. I don't agree that he necessarily wants to make it a political statement. It is what ii is, and would have become a public issue whenever it bacame public.

I read that he wanted to wait until after the draft but found out at the Senior Bowl that 90% of teams knew and wanted to do it himself before he was outed.

Nine years ago, Nebraska had a gay placekicker come out to teammates. Who knew? Article is worth a read.

But with kickers, it was always presumed.

Who said it...
I feel like "embattled" or "disgraced" will always follow my name. It's like that black football player who recently came out. He said, "I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player." I know exactly what he's saying.

So does this get its own thread or do we roll w/ the existing one? Derek Gordon of UMass (Plainfield, NJ) becomes first openly gay NCAA men's basketball player: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... ion-player" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He did it in a very cool way, too.

In a way an ump coming out is more impressive. He's likely to take more abuse from fans than a random player for team X.

And boy, just wait until the season starts and the first pissed off player makes a homophobic comment.

I am older than you.

She was the worst, the absolute worst. A shitty singer in the "Up With People" mould who went on to a second career as a pitchwoman for orange juice before finding her true calling as a spokesperson for the bigots of America.

Hope the worms enjoyed her.

Its the divorce part that really got me, on top of all the typical bigot shit. People who are staunchly against a group until they're personally affected are the most horrible.

Of course, long ago, in 1988, there was MLB umpire, Dave Pallone. After he was outed, MLB paid him to go away.

I have definitely yelled at Dale Scott over the years. I hope I never called him a fag.

Time to look up if Dale Scott treated Yunel Escobar fairly.
