Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore

It's my daughter's latest obsession.

I may have said this already, but it was either a TikTok or Instagram thing. She was showing me a couple months ago that half of the things that popped into her feed were Cane's related. Curious how much they paid for that, but it's clearly working.

We have one very close and luckily it's in the same spot as a Sonic and a Whataburger. Apps make life easy and unargumentative.

They opened one a month or so ago on the central corner of Franklin Street, the main shopping and bar drag on UNC's campus. They had been renovating the building "Coming Soon!" for well over a year for some reason. They've had lines out the door pretty much constantly since. My son says it's good, but not nearly worth the wait.

I've said it many times, I'm not waiting more than 5 minutes for fast food. Period and end of story. I waited for the Popeyes chicken sandwich craze to die down and enjoyed it just fine. But with a normal wait at the drive thru and no one threatening the employees and other customers when they ran out.

There's a Popeyes 2 blocks from my office. Maybe I'll try the spice chicken sandwich next. I'm just hooked on the Thai food truck around the corner and the Middle Eastern cafe. Ooh, and the Turkish grill. That place was damned good.

The rapper Bun B opened Trill Burgers this year and the lines have been obscene. I mean, whatever someone wants to do with their time is fine, but I'm not doing that. Especially in the middle of a Houston summer! I had a chance to try it at a food festival I went to a couple months ago, but they were the only place giving out full-size options and I didn't want to risk stuffing myself on one vendor.

A lot of the higher-ranked BBQ places have long lines too and I either try to hit them on a random weekday or just figure it's going to take a special occasion for me to try it. Franklin's BBQ at the aforementioned food festival, for example.

The greatest decision AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) has ever done was to put a Popeye's on damn near every military establishment.

The only time I had ever heard of Popeye's prior to joining the military was when Chris Tucker mentioned them in Rush Hour.

I’ve never heard of it before and almost got lunch there on Friday. Ended up getting Ramen next door. What stopped me was seeing the calories on some of the items. Buldok looked interesting, though I don’t get the mozzarella cheese, but 2600+ calories for a bowl was eye opening. No regrets, the Ramen was fantastic and I enjoyed the perspective of college me seeing current me expensing a $20 bowl of ramen.

Yeah, the food is VERY good. The wings are on the same level of "I can't stop eating!!" as Chicken Filet (IMO).

I'm almost thankful that they are priced on the higher end. Keeps me from hitting them up frequently.

Thanks for the recommendation, fried chicken was fantastic. I've praised Wingstop, but this is way better. So crunchy! I went half with the spicy sauce, half with the yangnyeom sauce. Spicy was awesome, yangnyeom was very good, but any more than 4 wings and it wouldn't been too sweet for me. Its a soy-garlic based sauce with a touch of spice.

Korean fried chicken is the best fried chicken I've ever had. Hell, Korean food in general is some of the best food I've ever had. I miss Korea.

I love the flavors of Korean food. Used to work a couple blocks from Korea Town in Manhattan. Went out to nice K-BBQ restaurants a bunch, and would get takeout at some bodegas. I've seen a bunch of Korean fried chicken spots open in the last 5 years, been meaning to go.

At some point Bonchon changed their strips from tenders to chunks and liked the old ones better. Half and half is still my goto, tho.

There was a Korean food truck camped out on the corner of the last office I worked at in DC. It took a lot of resolve not to eat there more than once a week. They had some really good kimchi, to go with their excellent bulgogi.

So, unless they are actually talking about traditional Mexican food/cuisine, saying that the best Tex-Mex is in Arizona is, like... Sure.
