Re: Getting the spins
For all you Deadheads...KEXP's DJ Riz is doing a 'Day of the Grateful Dead' this afternoon, and its been great.
Re: Getting the spins
Shamir dropped a new single. Pretty damn good.

I don't want to read the article because this is the first time I've seen Idles mentioned in anything but fawning terms and I don't want to find out the article is like 90% positive.
Re: Getting the spins
I don't listen to as much music as I used to, but Crawler is easily the best new album I've heard so far this year and I don't think it's especially close.

Re: Getting the spins
Just listening now... this is good. Got a Mark Lanegan thing going on.
Re: Getting the spins
That makes me sad. But hopefully I have a new awesome album to listen to today!

Home Video and How Long Do You Think It's Gonna Last are going to be very high on my Spotify most played in 2021 list.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
Re: Getting the spins
Sierra Ferrell's debut album is one of my favourites of 2021 (and I thought I posted this before, but the fantastic search didn't show anything.)
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

What caused the death of rock, especially female fronted bands? Capitalism, baby!

Re: Getting the spins
As someone who worked for a long time in a radio-adjacent field can absolutely vouch for that analysis. You'd be shocked how few employees a typical radio station has these days. It's basically a broom closet with a transmitter. The Clear Channels and Entercoms have bled it dry.

We can only hope a video comes out of Ben Shapiro singing this song like WAP.

Re: Getting the spins
Really fascinating interview here with Steve Albini.
Think there's probably a lot of overlap between what a lot of us have gone through since many of us are of a similar age. Kind of nice to see someone take some responsibility for their mistakes and own them instead of just shifting the blame to someone or something else.

I know there aren't many reggae fans here - but if you do like the heavy riddims, this is tremendous stuff.

My youngest took a really weird pic this weekend on a trail walk where she just wanted to yell in the woods and it made her face all blurry and it took me like 30 seconds to figure out what it reminded me of.

Ryley Walker and a Japanese prog band.

Great song, but I can't get past the missed opportunity to rhyme connection with erection. It was right there!rass wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 7:26 am Not that she needs my seal of approval, but she's officially the best

Oldest put their Spotify year end update on the insta. Listened to over 33 days worth of spotify this year. That seems like a lot.

1. Beach House
2. The National
3. Frightened Rabbit
4. Interpol
5. Radiohead
22,619 hours but that's incomplete music listening unless I can figure out a way to find my hours on the KEXP app.

Re: Getting the spins
How do you get to the data? I only get a playlist of my top tracks.
Re: Getting the spins
My top artist this year was Marvin Gaye, which apparently I'm in the 98%ile of Marvin Gaye listeners. I would not have guessed that.

Hmmm ... yeah. 377 hours.
Re: Getting the spins
This song just came on the radio and in my mind and it sounds a lot like a song I remember, but not quite? So either I've slightly altered it in my memory or there's another song that really does sound like this or a prominent cover or something?

Hey that's my old 'hood.

MF Doom, finally a name I'm familiar with beyond seeing you guys talk about. Unless Bruce refers to Springsteen or Hornsby.

Re: Getting the spins
My top artist was Billie Holiday. Solely because when I listen to spotify (instead of KEXP) I mostly listen to the Murakami vinyl collection playlist, which has a boatload of Billie Holiday.
Re: Getting the spins
It is the Boss. It took a while to get through his list. The Sybian wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 8:45 pmMF Doom, finally a name I'm familiar with beyond seeing you guys talk about. Unless Bruce refers to Springsteen or Hornsby.
