So, I just discovered the band, “Wednesday”. Based on my very small sample size, every song of theirs sounds like it is of a different genre. This one is kind of country.

I was surprised and impressed to hear that he did a straight cover without changing any words, including "I work in the market as a checkout girl." I was certain he would change the gender. Kudos to him for not. It's funny sometimes how small things like that can have a positive impact.
I still hate it but you’re right in that it’s at least respectful to the original version. It just didn’t need to be done.
My son told me that because Combs was doing a cover without getting some okay from Chapman, he had to sing the song as it was written, so he couldn't change any of the words.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I don’t think that is correct. As long as he gives her credit and pays her royalties, I think he is legally allowed to record it however he wants.

Did anyone else think that it was Neil Young singing Miles?

Or think Vestavia Hills really sounds like Too Long in the Wasteland by James McMurtry?
I haven't listened to much James McMurtry. I need to remedy that. I recently learned that we went to the same high school.
McMurtry’s voice is a bit flat, but imho, nobody writes better lyrics. Going to see him again in July.
How was it? I just started listening to his latest album and I've been loving it. You hit the nail on the head about his voice though.

I also just learned that he is the son of the guy who wrote Lonesome Dove.

13 and I'm still hanging in there. Trip to used bookstores to buy books and CD's, loaning some CDs (and getting the list of recommendations from here), solid dad jokes, discussions about politics... I have better staying power that you're giving me credit for.

Also, much more like me than mom.

Kind of an odd take.

I haven't listened to Mitski before, but I'm on my second run through her new album now. It's good. By its nature, it's not trying to be as catchy or memorable as Rodrigo's album. And it's not.

This sounds terrifying...

What to know about Sufjan Stevens’s Guillain-Barré syndrome diagnosis
Indie-rock singer Sufjan Stevens revealed Wednesday that he is recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder that has left him unable to walk.

In a statement on his website, Stevens said he has been hospitalized for several weeks because of the condition, which attacks the nerves and could lead to paralysis. He said his brother brought him to a hospital after he started experiencing symptoms that left him immobile.

“Last month I woke up one morning and couldn’t walk. My hands, arms and legs were numb and tingling and I had no strength, no feeling, no mobility,” he wrote.

He said he went through multiple tests — MRIs, scans, X-rays, spinal taps and more — before he was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder. He received a treatment — immunohemoglobin infusions for five days — and found that he would recover.

“Very scary, but it worked,” he wrote.

Stevens said he is going through “intensive physical therapy/occupational therapy, strength building” to get his body back in shape so he can walk again.
He does have a new album coming out next month...
The health condition left Stevens unable to promote his upcoming album, “Javelin,” which is expected to be released next month. Two songs from the album — “So You Are Tired” and “Will Anybody Ever Love Me?” — have already been released.

The father of one of our neighbors came down with GBS this summer. Basically felt a little weird one day and the next couldn't move. Spent months immobile and in the hospital, but he's now in a PT facility and getting better. He is/was a very active 60+ year old and the medical pros are crediting that with his current recovery. Scary shit.

The Chicago Tribune's review of The Bends (gave it one star out of 5):
Along with Beck's "Loser," Radiohead's smash single "Creep" made up a sort of low self-esteem hit parade for disaffected pop fans. Lacking that dubious appeal, there's little on the British group's second record to suggest they'll be more than one-hit wonders. Thom Yorke's ethereal vocals and woebegone melodies are tuneful enough, but too self-absorbed to be catchy. The sweeping, extravagant choruses and Seattle wanna-be guitar parts are similarly heavy-handed and excessive: the clumsy, unpleasant guitar scorch of "Bones" and "My Iron Lung" are particularly cringe-inducing. If the band had dispensed with the grandiose dramatic effects, songs like "The Bends" and "Black Star" could have been catchy little rockers. Instead, Radiohead's overwrought, pompous music makes them sound like alternative rock`s answer to the Moody Blues.

So The Rolling Stones apparently released their first new album of original material in about 20 years yesterday. I only learned of it via Giff's Twitter. Giving it a spin now on Spotify, and it's ... not too bad! It's mind boggling to think that the core of this band is 80 years old. I mean, they are forever connected with the Beatles and here they are releasing new material over 50 YEARS after the Beatles split up. (And apparently Paul McCartney plays bass on one of these songs.)

I was just giving Olivia Rodrigo's new album another spin and one song, "pretty isn't pretty" caught my ear as reminding me of The Cure, at least the intro did. A quick Google showed I wasn't the only one to hear the similarity (and I don't think it's any more than that - this isn't a "stealing" issue) to "In Between Days." What was interesting though was that others thought it sounds like "1979" by Smashing Pumpkins and "Lazy Eye" by Silversun Pickups. I checked and they're all right! I love all three of those songs but had never noticed the similarities. Check it out for yourselves. You really only have to play the first 10 seconds of the songs to hear it.

Hadn't picked up on the similiarities, but I absolutely love all 4 of those songs. Pretty Isn't Pretty is my favorite off that album, and In Between Days is my favorite Cure song. 1979 is a classic and Lazy Eye is clearly the best Silversun Pickups song. Can't remember if I posted it here or in a group text, but I called Pretty Isn't Pretty a driving song. Maybe it was the connection with the 1979 video that did it for me subconsciously?

Always loved 1979. Not sure I would have thought of it when hearing the Olivia Rodrigo song, but I agree. Nice song, I need to give her a listen. I've heard a couple of her songs and liked them, just hard to forget her as a Teen Nick actress, as my daughter watched her show. I Really like the Silversun Pickups song, need to give them a listen too. To throw out another great song with a similar vibe, Mazzy Star Fade into You:
