Yes and no. But it pretty much sums up my feelings as well.

Its probably closer to correct too, but I absolutely can't stand them these days. I have no idea how I'd feel if they started with The Suburbs, but atleast for me I don't think its quite as simple as "you're only comparing them to their peak".

That’s all well and good, but Isbell needs to stay in his lane: and that’s a nice way of saying, shut the fuck up and play your guitar.

(I agree with his sentiment, but don’t feel an artist should be the one endorsing it)

I guess I should've asked: what compelled Isbell to say that?

There is a theory about bands that make fantastic debut albums that they spend their entire lives writing that first album, then about 12-18 months writing the second one, and the difference in life experiences is something that can not be measured.

They were on SNL last night and presumably people were critizing.

Eh. Maybe I slammed him too hard. Essentially, people took to Twitter to criticize Arcade Fire, perhaps because they're no longer the band people once thought they were: the way Butler wrote songs in a manner that harkens back to the surrealism of Bowie's 'Heroes', or the stark nature to Lou Reed's 'Dirty Blvd'? (That's my problem with them anyway)

I dunno. I think Isbell needs to understand that, as an artist, any attempt to mitigate any negative criticism of a fellow artist will only be viewed by those engaged in the effort as a form of vindication.

I don't nearly enough about hip hop to have an opinion there, but I think the last band this theory was used on that I recall was the Killers.

I'm ashamed to admit that I have never in my life heard this song until this morning. I've now heard it about 28 times.

That's De La, not Tribe. I don't care if you agreed to the trade or not, I'm listening to Wilco in my cabin.

One of the filler tracks to the 1987 Stone Roses EP, Sally Cinnamon,

‘Here it Comes’

I'm not so sure and yet I know
Give me your life
It's worthless anyhow
And worthless comes
I'm not so tall
As I like to think I am
Though I'll be found
Forever in your pain
And here it comes

I'd rather be no one than someone with no one
I'd rather be no one than someone with no one
No one to love

Wife and I are going to see this duo called ‘Ultrafaux’ (inspired by Django Reinhardt) here at a speakeasy over in Harbor East tonight. It all started this morning when we spent the better part of 3 hours listening to Medeski Martin & Wood.

Big new for KEXP....

An anonymous donor left $10 million in her will for KEXP.

I heard that announced earlier and looked up the most recent budget I could find. That would equal about 1.25x their entire 2015 expense budget.

I always say that if I ever win the lottery (I'd have to start buying lottery tickets first), every pledge drive I would call up and say 'How much you need?', and then donate that much.

Which is basically what Paul Allen did as they got close to their goal for the new studio. They were within about $150K, and he just called them up and said 'How much you still owe? I'll send over a check'.

I'd appreciate it a lot more if Allen would do that at the start of the drive so the drive can stop.

All public radio stations really should do more on air fundraising during the year. I know there's some "donate your car," "this station has blah blah as an underwriter," etc. But you don't really hear "you dig this song, or did you enjoy this program?" Any pledge now lessens the drive in Debussy so we can come to bring great programs.

When a band hasn't released a record for a decade and then a 4/20 surprise album release gets leaked a day earlier and it's on Jack White's label...

You do on KEXP. Pretty much every day, not just during the pledge drives.

I went and fired up Dopesmoker because of this news (420!) to see what it's about. I'm seven minutes in, there have been no words, and it's almost like it's a soundtack for an alien movie but yet I am still compelled to keep listening.

Comment on the youtube page:

"This is my ringtone. The whole thing."

At 14 minutes, there is a guitar solo. Well, they're a trio, so really everything up to this point has kind of been a guitar solo, too. But he's now shredding a bit more instead of just handling the riff.

At 31 minutes, and there have been lyrics for a considerable amount of time now! A deluge of metal growling!

38:59 and another, mellower guitar solo that sounds like Stevie Ray Vaughn a little bit.
