Bob watched a lot of his friends die from AIDS in the 80s. America is hard on oppressed minorities.

Speaking of that, I was a bit surprised to read yesterday that Drew Magary says that Sugar is/was his favorite band. (I know they share the Minnesota background, but still...)

It's good, even if I've only listened through my shitty computer speakers.

Today is another '100% of sales go to artists' friday on bandcamp. Lots of artists are in turn donating to protest support & causes. Just snagged an Eight Bells (Portland female post-metal band) T-shirt and prob gonna snag a few LP's from others later.

I'm gettin' the popcorn ready:
Hyden's book on music rivalries is pretty good. Haven't read the whole thing, and I don't remember if this rivalry is in there or not.

I read it a couple of summers ago and can't remember either. Worse, he's mentioned the book during the podcast numerous times and I haven't remembered some of those references, either. I think I drink too much while on vacation.

RTJ4 is really damn good.
A Few Words for the Firing Squad is an all timer. Damn.
And makes me feel like an idiot that I never once considered the implications of that band name. Is that really a slight? I guess I don't get it but if that's the way Hood feels about it, then I've got a lot of respect for the introspection.

Can I say the explanation seems worse than the origin? Am I missing nuance or is the underlying logic "of course drive bys refer to black people"?

I think the point is that Hood knows what he meant by it 25 years ago even if not everyone else (both BSF and I included) does.

I bet he regularly jerks off to the video.
"He" is referring to Queensryche guy, correct?
Yes. [heh].

I've been following that No Depression playlist for a couple months now.
I just discovered Gabe Lee and if you're into Americana at all, check him out. I was hooked 30 seconds in and the second track is just such a beautiful classic country song. Plus, track listings on the cover is underrated.

Every year or every other year I'm convinced some artist I listen to either already has become a breakout star* or is going to and then I'll ask friends who listen to music on a more general level and they have no idea who it is.
* Breakout like turning into The Killers or Arcade Fire or probably The National now, where they step up to the next level of awareness. Feels like no one has done that for almost a decade now.

I almost hesitate to mention it because it has nothing to do with her talent which is immense but Phoebe Bridgers is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen in “real life”. Honestly photos and videos don’t do her justice.

With literally no hyperbole I don’t know what an “angel” would look like in “real life” but I doubt it would be better than Phoebe Bridgers.

Seeing how breathtakingly beautiful she is in person and how talented she is makes me hate him even more for trying to take advantage of her.
