Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
“It’s all very exciting: it kind of feels back to the classic National sound in a way, which was really just the five of us, and it has a lot of energy in it,”
So, Alligator and Boxer? High Violet had a lot of Padma and I think that was the tour when they started having Ben and Kyle play with them.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Yeah, the wording seems contradictory. Classic sound is Boxer + High Violet, energy (and being reinspired by Idles) is Alligator.

I guess HBO does a great job of keeping their shit off of YT because I can't find this clip anywhere but I decided to go back and finish the last season or two of Eastbound and Down and in season 3 episode 4 there is an extended scene at a funeral and after things really go to shit the intro of Runaway kicks in and the song plays us out through the rest of the episode that sees Kenny reading Penthouse letters to his baby as a night time story while in another room in the apartment his friend/personal assistant Stevie gets pegged by his wife and cries (not from the pegging, but because he cheated on her earlier at the funeral). Great use of a great tune.

Oh man, that may be my wife's favorite National track. This sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun to show to her.rass wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 5:44 pm I guess HBO does a great job of keeping their shit off of YT because I can't find this clip anywhere but I decided to go back and finish the last season or two of Eastbound and Down and in season 3 episode 4 there is an extended scene at a funeral and after things really go to shit the intro of Runaway kicks in and the song plays us out through the rest of the episode that sees Kenny reading Penthouse letters to his baby as a night time story while in another room in the apartment his friend/personal assistant Stevie gets pegged by his wife and cries (not from the pegging, but because he cheated on her earlier at the funeral). Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Watched this last night and its pretty clear Berninger was mixing weed with weed before the show. Rough start, not the best overall, still watched it straight through.

I don't really mind tipsy Matt. Adds a sense of danger to the show. He was that way the first night of Homecoming and he seems to have a good handle on not going too far and getting into a rhythm.
Sounds like I need Al-Anon, I know.

I read the the 33 1/3 entry on Boxer at the beach today a thought you were somehow yelling at me until I re-read the last post.
Gotta say I don’t know where they’re going with the instrumental side of things these days sometimes….

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
- The first beats sound like the song from that viral Maggie Rogers + Pharrell video
- Lyrics/cadence sounds like old Berninger
- I really like that Vernon didn't get co-billing which would have made me fear the next album will also focus too hard on guest vocals
- Around 1:33 I decided I liked it and by 1:50-something I was all in
- I expect this one to be really good live
- Only negative, and its a big one, is Bryan seems far more background relative to the Bon Iver machinery
This plus the three I've heard in the recent live shows leaves me really confident the next album will be good unless the production is shit.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
It'll grow on me. There isn't a ton of Bon Iver there, vocally anyway.

Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
I think its a really nice standalone. If its indicative of the production of the album or even part of the album, I'll likely be upset.
Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Every size sold out within a few hours and everything is going to secondary pre-order. This is like when a new PlayStation or new Jordans(?) are released.
Re: The OFFICIAL The National Thread
Just know there will be a guilty party if my wife didn't order my xmas present as soon as I sent her the link (around noon yesterday).

This hoodie feels like one my better chances at organically making a local dad friend.

My Drive-By Truckers directly led to us meeting some of our newer best friends.
Him: Hey, saw your shirt, do you know Jason Isbell?

Haven't worn it yet (a dad wearing a "Sad Dads" hoodie isn't universally appropriate) but it seems like good quality.
