Homecoming lineup announced today. Kinda glad it isn't better since I don't think I can make it.

I really don't like "The Alcott". Not as some backlash against having Taylor Swift, but it just doesn't fit the album or their style in general. Her lyrics are strange (the word "give me some tips" versus "give me advice" or something) and I hate the "falling in love with you again" resolution at the end. The National doesn't have resolution, its always individual islands, either being neglectful or neglected. On top of that ... the album is very much directly about Carin and Matt, so having her come in with a 20 year age difference is just creepy and out of place. It should be on a movie soundtrack, not a proper album, even if I get why they did.

They have to release this somewhere in the future. Shot in black and white, fantastic sound, small venue, great setlist. All the songs from the new album in order except they skipped Alcott, then Cap, Ohio, System, Light years, Graceless, Empire, Terrible, About, Vanderlyle.
It's on YouTube now, and it remains fantastic.

Absolutely agree. “Grease in Your Hair” is the only one that I’d even consider on that level so far.

Posting in the correct thread…

I’ve never gone through their discography from start to finish, so decided I’d do that since I’m seeing them next month in Denver. Really enjoying Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers.

That either bodes really well or really poorly. Which, to be fair, is kind of how fandom of this band works.

Yeah. If it’s not ground-level “this could be good”, you’re really going to hate the turn by Boxer.

I think the 12th was slightly better. Rylan and Abel put it just over the top for me. The last five before the encore your night were fire though.

It does look a lot like the night 1/2 splits in Philadelphia although I feel like that was even more skewed towards the 2nd night.

Unique Denver N1: About Today, Cherry Tree, Conversation 16, Day I Die, Deep End, Demons, Humiliation, Light Years, Murder Me Rachael, New Order T-Shirt, Pink Rabbits, Smoke Detector, The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness, Wasp Nest, Weird Goodbyes

Unique Denver N2: Abel, Afraid of Everyone, Apartment Story, Carin at the Liquor Store, Don't Swallow the Cap, Guilty Party, I Need My Girl, Runaway, Rylan, Send for Me, Space Invader (Threaded Gold), Squalor Victoria, This Is the Last Time, This Isn't Helping, Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks

15 non-repeats each night and my quick first take is 9 the 2nd night and 6 the first if I were making a best 15, although a top 6 would be even more skewed. Either way these shows have been great and the real lesson is don't just go one night when there are two.

Have no idea what to expect out of MSG, whether it'll be all hits or a superfan event.

Not surprisingly almost the same.

Out: Light Years, I Need My Girl, Runaway
In: Conversation 16, Murder Me Rachael, Squalor Victoria

Demons at Night 1 in Philadelphia had me concerned we were in for a Drunk Matt show, which is fine sometimes but maybe not with an 11 year old. His timing was just awful, kept jumping the starts and seemed to just struggle through it.

Of the songs not played at either Denver show, I'd add Mistaken for Strangers as a must for my ideal setlist.

I get that Lemonworld, All the Wine, and I'll Still Destroy You may not necessarily the best live songs, but I wouldn't mind hearing them either.

There also seems to be escalating speculation about T-Swift making an appearance at MSG. I've gone from 1% concern to ~10%, where the concern has nothing to do with her coming out (might be kinda fun), but of her fans accounting for all late transactions and fucking up the vibe just hoping to catch one song.
