Who will Johnny Manziel become? Namath of Leaf?

It seems Johnny Football is embracing his life. Not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact, I applaud him for his candor.

But, in the end, will he become Broadway Joe ... or Prisoner Ryan?

What do you think?

Ryan Leaf was mentally like 4. Manziel can handle the media pressure, it seems.

Handle it? He lives for it.

Not certain what he turns into but he is the anti-Tebow. That's certain. Will be interesting to see how he pans out.

ESPN loves him. He has the target on him. We'll know more in a few months.

How is he the anti-Tebow? Isn't it the same rub? That his game is too school yard and not tailored to the NFL?

Oh, I thought we were talking about football. Either way, he's got the Tebow down-pat...

Manziel can also throw a spiral, making him very anti-Tebow.

Unfortunately he runs into Dick LeBeau twice a year, which would be a nice time to go Tebow.

Dude, LeBeau is like a thousand years old. I'm sure Manziel would knock him right on his ass.

Andre Reed has weighed in, if you're interested:
“Who the fuck is Johnny Manziel?” Reed asked. “LeBron ain’t your guy! You’re not ‘Johnny Football.’ You’re ‘Johnny Rookie Bitch.’ ” Reed said he didn’t think a blue-collar town like Buffalo, which he thought wears an even truer shade of denim than Cleveland, would stand for Manziel’s antics. “They’d boo that motherfucker outta here,” he said. “The fans would put him in his place.”
Also not a fan of Bon Jovi's proposed purchase of the Bills:
“Man, fuck Bon Jovi!” Reed said. “You might as well just take this city, throw it in the river, and let it go down Niagara Falls.”

I had the same thoughts about Buffalo when I was going to school there.

Fuck a possible competent QB! We're gonna go blue collar! Again! For like the 12th year in a row we're going to sacrifice talent for blue-collarness! FUCK ST. CATHERINES

If gordon can win his appeal, the chances of him being a success improve.

The headline of the Gordon story made me laugh dismissively... but the details are quite interesting. The B sample of his urine was under the NFL's strict limits. So he may have grounds to appeal.

The most Brown thing ever would be if the suspension was overturned and Gordon was arrested again two weeks later.

Yeah, i figured it was just going through the process, but it seems like they may have a chance at getting it reduced at least.

I really hope so. The weed suspension is stupid, Gordon is one of the most exciting players in the league, but most important, I need him to play for my keeper league! I don't want to lose a roster spot all season, but I gotta keep him. Costs me only an 8th round pick this year, 6th next. But you don't care about that.

To me, the most interesting thing about all of this is it's exposing the NFL's drug testing rules and requirements. To flunk a test for marijuana, the player has to have more than 15 ng/ml of marijuana (I assume THC) in their systems. But the World Anti Doping Agency's guidelines for a marijuana test are substantially more lenient. To fail a WADA marijuana test, the athlete has to have more than 150 ng/ml in their systems.

And if the report that Gordon had passed "at least 70" drug tests before this failed test are true, then the second-hand smoke argument could be plausible (especially since the second sample was less than the NFL's threshold for a failed test).

I think the backlash for the shortness of the Ray Rice suspension will also work in Gordon's favor. The NFL doesn't want to answer the questions they'll get if/when a long suspension despite extenuating circumstances is compared to two games for KO'ing a woman

Very interesting. The NFL is doing itself a very serious disservice with this, and other drug cases. They should only test for steroids and PEDs. The majority of people don't care if players smoke weed, and those that do get upset about role models doing drugs (think about the CHILDREN!), only find out because the NFL makes a big deal out of it. The NFL makes itself look bad by giving a slap on the wrist to a guy who beats his fiance and drags her through a hotel, then suspends a guy for a year for something that is punished less harshly than a speeding ticket where it hasn't been legalized. Not to mention, it was during the fucking off season! Let the Browns suspend him, if they choose, for using a substance that could potentially hurt performance, but fuckoff Goodell.

Of course the subsequent DUI is not going to work in his long term favor.

He should get the standard first-time 0.09 DUI NFL penalty which is "hey, stop that!".

I think Johnny Manziel has a good chance to be a poor man's version of Fran Tarkenton, in between serious injuries. But of course Tarkenton was only great in the context of playing on good teams.

From what I understand, the NFL takes 2 samples at the same time, labelled A and B. Gordon's B sample passed, while his A sample failed. For some reason, that counts as a fail, but if the random assignment of labels on the cups was reversed, he would have passed the test. I find this arbitrary and capricious, therefore the arbitrator must overturn the suspension. I also read that the arbitrator is constrained to ruling for a full season suspension or no suspension at all. He doesn't have the ability to decrease the suspension, but the NFL and Gordon can agree to a reduced suspension before the finding is revealed.

The extremely low level required for a fail is ridiculous, but that is part of the CBA, so the union agreed to it. The appeal went on for 13 hours. WTF could they have presented that would take that long? The only relevant evidence is the CBA and prior NFL suspensions. The decision isn't expected for another 1-3 weeks. WTF could take 3 weeks to determine? It's not like this appeal hinges on a mountain of case law.

Maybe that was his defense..."I'll bring all my homies in here for a marathon, let them spark up and you guys just sit here and then piss in the cups."

The answer is neither.
