Go to: User Control Panel > Board Preferences > My Board Style.

From there you can select "subsilver2" (which is the default phpBB blue you are used to) or "prosilver" which is different somewhat yet again.

In short, you have three styles from which to choose.

There's this weird "Add Friend" and "Add Foe" thingamabob if you click on someone's username. Don't see the point of it but hey! Not a big Karma points kinda guy.

I'm trying out one of the other skins. It's all kinds of blue. I found the default green a little washed out.

I haven't gotten over the avatars on the right though. Is that an admin option? I ask, because I have never seen a message board with avatars on the right. That's just odd.

The 'subsilver' board style has the avatars on the correct side.

The avatars appearing on the right is because of the Style (the "Green" style is called Maxthon). When designing a style, one has the option of putting pretty much anything anywhere but phpBB has the final say on whether they will offer it on their site. Some forums are completely customized to their own liking.

The default for most styles is to have the avatars on the traditional left column of the forum.

Here's a question for y'all:

Do you want the default of The Swamp to be Maxthon (Green) or would you like the default to be Subsilver (Blue)? Not that it is a big deal since any user can change their default in the User Control Panel.

I think the default should be subsilver, primarily due to multiple inquiries on how to move avatars to the left.

I think this blue is far superior.

I think "subsilver" would be a better default since that is arguably what most of us are used to.

I'll leave that question out there all day (or maybe until enough Swampers chime in). If that's the consensus, I'l switch the forum default style (late at night Pacific time). After all, if anyone wants the Green Swamp, which I added out of nostalgia I suppose, they can opt to switch styles any time they want.

Oh yeah, that's the shit. I tried prosilver first and it was OK. subsilver2 is much nicer. Granted, a lot of that is comfort, but I really do think it looks better - both colors and layout.

That was mostly sarcastic. As long as it isn't an eye-searing color, I don't give a crap what color it is. I love subsilver. Could be an even better option, but I'm not looking for one. This is infinitely better than the other two boards, so I'm thrilled as is.

Is there going to be a fix for the disjointed left margins? Some of us are way too anal retentive to tolerate it.

I could fix it in a few seconds by restricting avatars to a smaller size but, as you know, everyone will start yelling about that instead of the table structure. So I can't win here.

Give it time. Once I get the major stuff solidly running and the database(s) reintegrated, then the other things get looked at. For now, I'm thrilled that this is still here 24-hours later. I'm picking at what needs to be done. Once the forum is firm, the server tolerance is clean and a few other things, then we can dig into the cosmetics.

FWIW, I don't get that askewness using Maxthon (Swamp green) on Windows at 1650x1050.

Not that I expect everyone to drop what they have and switch to that.

Here's the thing . . . and it is a common QA problem. Sites don't consistently look the same when you look at them at every possible resolution, in every possible browser, on every operating system, on every device. It' more complicated now than ever. Your display is partially fucked up, someone else's is perfect, and so on.

Part of the problem is that fixing one person's problem might create more problems for others. Can't say for sure about that but it would hardly be the first time I've seen it happen.

There is a Firefox add-on called "blackify" thatll turn all webpage backgrounds from white to black.

yeah, i like blackify. (shocker) but i lost it back about ten firefox upgrades ago or so. incompatible, until someone wrote a new, compatible version, but i missed upgrading it. stupid firefox, i get it just the way i like it, then they upgrade, and half my extensions/add-ons stop working. then over the next few weeks, i gotta keep checking back for the new versions. pita. i'm delaying the most recent firefox version, cause the one i'm running is just fine.

anyway, i'll go get blackify. haven't used it in a couple of years. thanks.

eta: shit, i have blackify already loaded. on the add-on bar at the bottom. but i have to go to white to edit. insert racist joke.

When I use Firefox I use 9 still, even have it a portable version on a flash drive on my keys so I can take my browser with me...more a chrome man these days though.

I was missing something, because it took me until today to notice the times were off. I switched my board preferences to CST (so I know when it's time to go home).

You can configure that in your user profile. YOU are the one with DST turned on.

User Control Panel > Board Preferences > change "Summer Time/DST is in effect:" to "no"
