Phil is making a mess of the hole, which means he will somehow make par.

Gotta love how the #1 ranked player surges to the lead and ESPN's headline is all about Tiger, who's 13 strokes back.

ESPN declared Rory "Off the rails" when he made his double bogey-bogey run yesterday. Tiger is just "struggling". ESPN is a self parody at this point, everyone knows they only promote or care about stars they helped make or who will give them good access.

Come on, Rickey Puma. I mean, Rickey Orange. I mean, Fowler.

ETA: so, is Phil that big, or is Rickey that little?

This course could maybe buy a few bridges with the money they make from this tourney?

Excellent.

If golf tournaments were as crazy as that, I'd be watching every week. Fowler's par from the wrong fairway was the highlight for me. Gives me some hope for the next time I play.

I kept thinking today.. imagine the Olympic golf tournament in 2016. You have a race down the stretch like that and there's only 3 medals.

I don't think Valhalla is a great, major championship calibre golf course. I do think it is a course that makes for great tournments. Would be a great yearly tour stop or one of the Tour Championship stops or maybe even a Match Play championship.

And that said, two of the three majors there have been won by the best players of their generation.

One of my two birdies from a round earlier this year was when I stuck my approach shot from the wrong fairway to about 4 feet away from the hole.

That shit was bananas yesterday.

And I really have to wonder if Phil and Ricky don't feel slightly screwed by having to play speed golf the last 3 or 4 holes. The pacing was so clipped, they were practically jogging in between shots at the end.

Did they have too? I mean were they forced too?

I don't see any problem of playing with 15 or 16 and then continuing on Monday. If they were forced to play fast because of television then that's just wrong and the PGA really needs to look at itself.

Yes, they had too. If a horn had sounded signaling that it was too dark to play (which comes from the Tournament honchos, not the players), they would have had the option to quit right then or finish the hole they were currently on and then quit. There was never a horn.

The players don't like monday finishes any more than CBS does, but like doc said, they never blew the horn. Im guessing CBS had more than a little to say about that because it was so close of a tournament between the final two pairings.

But the fact there was never a horn doesn't mean they have to hurry and finish. If Phil and Fowler decided that avoiding a Monday finish is more important than a major title then that's on them. Everyone should have just played at normal speed and they should have never let Rory play ahead. The horn probably would have gone off with the final two groups on 16/17 it they had played normally. I don't see anything wrong with that.

They even said on the broadcast that Phil had been engaged with an official (though a PGA, course or CBS wasn't clear to me) about how shit was going down at the end.

I haven't read up today on any quotes, but you can bet your ass if this was a more prestigious major, there'd be pretty significant backlash this morning. If you had two Americans on the cusp of winning the US or British Open or The Masters pushed into speed golf down the stretch, there'd be a significant outcry.

I could have sworn that the announcers said that any of the players could have said "too dark to play" and they'd have called it.

(Could be wrong however)

That IS what the announcers said. But I wouldn't trust Jim Nantz if he told me I was on fire. (Assuming I was, in fact, on fire.)

PLayers can decide if they want to stop. Like I said, they wanted out of Louisville as much as any sane person would.
