NFL Week 4

Post by Gunpowder »

Haven't checked the lines, but I have a feeling Tampa Bay will be big underdogs in Pittsburgh.

However, this Bucs team is just the type of team to give Pittsburgh fits. Tall WRs to get pass interferences, a pretty damn good running game, and a QB who throws a lot of stupid picks. The Steelers don't make interceptions, which is why the Derek Andersons and Ryan Fitzpatricks of the world are such bad matchups for them.

I'm taking them if the line is double digits.

Consensus line here is Steelers -7.

Does Mike Glennon throw stupid picks? Because that's who is qb-ing them now, I think. The weird love-fest for 35-year old nothing qbs over after two and a half games of awful and a foot injury.

Hard to see that as anything but a solid Steelers win. I considered it for survivor pool but will go with Chargers over Jax in SD instead. I will prob get Bortle'd.

I'll take Steelers -41.5. just joking, but i swore i wouldn't take the bucs ever again. i've only watched thursday and monday night games so far, and that was the worst i have seen a team play in years. It's in Pittsburgh so i think i'm going Pittsburgh.

538's Elo ratings put the line at Pittsburgh -9.5, so SL was right on with guessing it would be about 10. That kinda surprised me. I'm going to stay away, but I wouldn't be surprised to see TB lose by less than a TD.

They have two pass rushers who can't get to the QB anymore (Ryan Kerrigan really never could) and scrubs everywhere else. You guys need to read Heat and Meat's Sports Picks!

So maybe that was a good sneak preview when the Skins terrible pass rush destroyed the Patriots offensive line in joint practices and preseason.

I missed the game. Did all the Redskins refuse to play because of the association with ISIS, and it was just Dan Snyder on the field getting pummeled?

Step 1. Cut a hole in the box
2. Put your dick in the box
3. Don't use preseason as a barometer of anything

Id agree about the preseason games but im also with Ed that reports were pretty bad in that joint scrimmage. Pats might have a problem on their hands. Solder looks bad. Maybe that's because hes lined up in the toughest spot and it shows more. Certainly other guys are getting beat more than their fair share too. Unless Waters is still waiting in that locker room, im a bit concerned. Not a Mankins thing either. Starting to think that Bill sold a TB a defective guy anyway. Not sure a 4th round center solves that problem either.

Can I use it as a harbinger of the current panic over the Pats o-line?

Usually, the Patriots improve, but it's worriesome with Mankins gone, who I thought was terrible last year, but maybe he was average compared to a below average replacement. Also, Scarnecchia's retired and there have been complaints about his replacement, but how much does an offensive line coach matter? (That's a real question not rhetorical)

I'm guessing things will be better with Solder getting better recovering from his injury, Gronkowski getting healthier and playing more than 50% of the snaps, and the young guys hopefully improving. Then Brady will have more time to force the ball to Edelman.

Or they can sign Incognito, who doesn't seem so bad as long as he doesn't murder anyone, knock out his wife, or use a switch on a toddler.

Lions players almost getting Final Destinationed has to be some kind of a sign.

(They had also announced Fauria was injured yesterday after an "innocent" accident at his home Wednesday.)

For the guys talking about the Pats' offensive line problems (and anyone else, hey, who am I to say reading is bad), Mike Tanier wrote an interesting article about their pass "attack".

Mostly right, but I don't think you blame the receivers here. Maybe blame some injuries to Gronk and Dobson but the group as a whole is above average. Edelman can get downfield some and definitely gets separation in the first 15. Dobson and Thompkins can stretch the defense enough. They do lack a true burner gamedays but that guy is Boyce and he is stashed deep on the practice squad and is nowhere close to getting on the field after Edelman, Dobson, Thompkins, Amendola and LaFell. The kid Tyms showed up big in preseason (I know) but he probably gets the nod over Boyce too once hes off suspension. Wright seems solid and is pretty much a WR not to mention Gronk. Long way of saying its not the pass catchers. Some of Brady. Hes not the same as he used to be but hes not the problem. Its the line and they just got to get better. Probably will and they always seem to do that, but in the past they've picked up pro bowlers or had rookies step into spots and that doesn't seem likely outside of Stork. Counting on 4th round center to let you shift guys from tackle inside isn't enough.

Is there still an 'In the grasp' rule? The NFL cannot have it both ways...

Andrew Luck is tackled from behind and as he is going down he throws for a 1st down (on 3rd and 6). Jurrell Casey who is closing fast (and less than 2 feet away from Luck), star jumps to block the pass and Luck hits Casey as he is being tackled. Result, roughing the passer from the point of the reception 10 yards down the field.

Luck's knee was down at the time of the pass (for the 3rd time this game) and this was not called. He was at huge risk of being destroyed by Casey, who pulled out of the hit (which would not have been late) and went to block the pass. This kind of thing really fucks me off.

I understand lots of people believe that it is all about the QB, but come on, give the defense a chance.

Steelers o-line sucks again.

'loma won't like the end of the half clock management again.

TB managed to get called for back to back delay of game penalties (without running a play in between). Very impressive.

Now the Bears have been charged with a timeout for throwing a challenge flag on a change of possession that is reviewed automatically anyway.
