Yeah, that first LA goal seemed like a surprise even to the announcers. I did not enjoy that game. Hopefully sancarlos had a better time in person. Outdoor games might be good for the team hosting but watching them play on tv sucks. I do not like seeing all that empty space and the outside of the boards. It felt like i was watching a game at my local outdoor rink.

So, the event was a lot of fun. Over 70,000 people. Lots of crowd chanting - 75% Sharks fans - usually yelling the local favorite, "Beat LA, Beat LA...", trying to drown out the boisterous 25% shouting "Go Kings Go". Pretty amiable crowd, enjoying the moments. But watching the game in a football stadium was hard. Most people focused more on the big screens than on the actual rink. I don't think the ice was too bad, as far as I could tell.

I thought John Fogarty was good, despite a crappy sound mix and poor acoustics.. I was interested in seeing how they'd handle a 15-minute set. Fogarty did snippets of the hits, while Melissa Etheridge stretched out two songs over her whole duration. It was clear by the crowd reaction that there were more CCR fans in the audience. Here's a poor quality shot:

Canadiens stay in first place in the Eastern conference after beating the Blues in St. Louis tonight, with one or two games in hand on the teams chasing them.

Ryan Lambert (@twolinepass) is not for everyone, or even most people, but I love him. He does a charity drive where for $50, he'll write about any hockey topic you choose. This one is arguing Boston shouldn't trade Lucic and I really like it.

Sure, you look at Lucic’s contract and you say, “Six million dollars?” And you look at his production and you say, “Half a point a game?” And you look at his advanced stats and say, “He’s not driving play?” And you circle back to his contract and you can’t figure it out.

But let me tell you, buddy, I live in Boston, and you have to understand that Lucic is more than just a third-line player with a first-line contract. He is The Boston Bruins. Everything that fans of this team like — hitting, fighting, saying mean stuff to the Canadiens, occasionally scoring goals, having Shawn Thornton’s phone number, and so on — is right in Milan Lucic’s job description. He’s basically Cam Neely without the goalscoring, or Bobby Orr without the being great, or Terry O’Reilly without the mythologizing yet.

That's great. Lambert used to write for a paper out here. Some people would get pissed because he was often critical of the Sharks.

Two guys I feared the Rangers would chase and one guy I would have been ok with all clear out today. Overall, a good day.

(Kings are getting over-benefit of the doubt on this one in terms of the price they paid for Sekera. And especially before we know what Petry brings back.)

BSF21 wrote:Blackhawks are in trouble. Real trouble.
Yahoo's 'Puck Daddy' wrote:When Patrick Kane had surgery, putting him out of the lineup for 12 weeks, one optimistic theory stated that it could be a rallying point for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Which would be a good thing, because apparently they want to tear each others’ throats out behind the scenes ...

Two sports analysts with Chicago roots have reported, independently, that the Blackhawks dressing room is a cesspool of personal conflict. First came this cryptic proclamation from Dan Bernstein, a WSCR afternoon host and columnist for CBS Sports who has a kick-ass ROBOTRON arcade game as his Twitter header:
Tweeted: "Per sources, #Blackhawks' locker room complicated by some untidy personal lives right now. Q's job: keep things from distracting/dividing"

“Untidy personal lives” … well, if “The Odd Couple” taught us anything it’s that slovenly behavior leads to personal strife.

Oh, but then David Diehl, the former NFL lineman turned NFL game analyst for FOX Sports, really turned up the heat:
Tweeted: "First Kane out 12 weeks and now a divided team after fist fight in the #Blackhawks locker room. There are locker room codes you do not cross"

A fist fight!? ON A TEAM THAT ONLY HAS 13 MAJOR PENALTIES THIS SEASON!?

Before you dismiss Diehl, please keep in mind he’s a Chicago native who’s been around the Blackhawks a bit. It’s entirely plausible that he’s got a source inside the room …

Hockey players...
I would not recommend this to anyone but the truth is that I played five more NHL games without ⅓ of a lung. My knee was genuinely sore, so I asked for some anti-inflammatories, which helped with the pain a little bit. My training was so overboard that the blood clot didn’t affect my conditioning. I played my best game of the year in Toronto, a few days after I felt the clot. We won 2-1, and I scored both goals. It was my first game back on the line with Sid and Kuny. That’s the line I love playing on. I’m like, “I’m back, baby!”

I've just about given up on the Sharks making the playoffs this season. They currently have the NHL's second-longest active streak of playoff appearances (behind only Detroit). But, the last two games were both back-breakers. First, they lose to the arch-rival Kings in front of 70,000 people, in a game that Jonathan Quick stole from them. Then, last night, they dominate the Red Wings in the first period and take the lead. Then, decide to go into a shell, play nothing but defense and protect a one-goal lead for the rest of the game. It was actually working until the last few minutes of the game when they gave up two bang-bang goals and lost the game. So frustrating.

Glencross to Washington for 2nd and 3rd.

Good trade for Calgary, they get two pieces while Glencross has been useless all year.
