FIFA World Cup 2013 Hasselhoff Style

Apparently the US qualified earlier this month for the 2013 Beach World Cup in Tahiti. They won the CONCACAF Qualification tournament in the Bahamas (beat El Salvador..who upset Mexico).

USA and El Salvador now join South American representatives Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil in the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which will be played in September in Papeete, Tahiti. Asia’s representatives are Iran, UAE and Japan, while the Netherlands, Spain, Russia and Ukraine fly the banner for Europe and the Tahitians qualify automatically as hosts.

USA lost the opener 5-4 to Spain
Tahiti beat UAE 3-2 in the other group game.

Forgot about this. I love beach soccer. I watched it last time around, with am former US center back whose name eludes me at the moment announcing. He was absolutely hilarious. Who knows the player's name? Tall, blond center back, more of a fringe player who got a number of starts, always scared the hell out of me when he was in the game.

Because of the sand almost every goal is a slick volley, half volley, header or overhead kick. The other goals are free kicks using the sand to get funky bounces. Some from the US game were crazy. Plus the US player with the poofy hair and mustache just looks like he is from the 70s.

Us loses 5-3 to Tahiti and won't move on. US v. UAE tonight at 10 for nothing but pride.
