I didn't take notice until I randomly saw that he had 12 a week or so back and did a double-take. I had already completely written that dude off.

Still no walks? Why even throw him a strike?

Yasiel Puig had a good debut last night, what with two singles and a great throw to complete the game ending 9-3 DP, or, as I like to call it, the "League Double Play". Proven closer!

There's no way they're going to get 100. MLB is on crack. That's a negotiating tactic to try and get the union to settle for 50.

Timmay is looking like Cy Young tonight. But, damn, there's been some bizarre umpire calls. Doc, watching this one?

I think the line drive double play call was actually correct. Ground can't cause a fumble, right?

I thought Timmay was missing high all night; but his splitter was breaking so sharply he got away with it. Except that shot Encarnacion hit in the first, which may still be in flight. Tim was changing speeds very nicely, and aside from being up a bit had nice command, hitting corners and not getting too fat.

Only reason Giants lead is Blue Jays faulty fielding, and the fluke ownage of Andres Torres over Johnson. Wonderful start for Josh, off the DL.

Snappy too; two hours in, bottom of the eighth.

ETA: plus a good hockey game. Sharp line changes, except that one that nearly cost the Kings the equalizer.

That's the exact call I was referring to.

Timmay was lights out. Lucky him that the Jays rolled in to town. Nah, I'm too harsh. Lincecum was throwing bullets tonight; most likely would have beat anyone. A treat to watch. Even deep in the 7th he was throwing unhittable misery. Terrible beauty. Magnificence. As confident as you'll ever hope to see him.

Kings/Hawks? From a bench strategy angle, from a game-play execution angle? Best game I've seen in years. Utterly brilliant.

Not sure about that double play. If that's a routine ground ball and the SS throws low to first, can the first baseman get away with a scoop like that?

Lincecum will do that these days. A great outing followed by 3 or 4 abysmal ones.

Did not see it. What specifically happened? Umpires have had some "shoot themselves in the foot" moments this year, no doubt.

No arrests yet, but I'm reading on Twitter that Indians closer Chris Perez is under investigation for allegedly receiving a "significant amount" of marijuana delivered to his home. Perez is currently on the DL with a shoulder injury.

And now it all makes sense ... the Indians' telephone number is 216-420-HITS, and one of the common Twitter hashtags for the Indians is #rolltribe. Hmm ...

There was a number of questionable calls. And it went beyond the Ernie Whitt "umps hate Toronto" reach. There was a force-out at second, and that's what I'm aiming at, that would have been upheld on a replay where you could break everything down to a millisecond. It was called an out, which turned out to be the right call, but you have to have Hubble Space Telescope vision to make that call. In human time it was a phantom tag.

At any rate . . .Lincecum was brilliant last night.

Oh, and don't watch or listen to the Braves/Pirates game. There's something happening there. For now.

That's two no-hitters broken up by Inge recently. Apparently the only time he can actually get a hit.

Don't get me wrong. I had the exact same reaction. Looked clearly safe (off the bag) and dropped the ball to boot. I was shocked upon viewing the replay. I think Gibbons waited for the replay, then said, 'fuck it, it's my job to jog out there and argue' and did so half-heartedly.

Glad I'm not watching this mess now.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, day in San Francisco. Oh, how I wish I was there instead of here. Oh, how. Really, I'd murder a hooker and hide the body somewhere around the Presidio. Well, I'd likely do that anyway but I really wish I was back in San Francisco today.

Honest question, for any Baseball guys out there, why the hell haven't the Jays fired Gibbons? Really. He's a sloth. Inanimate. I'm not going to go completely apeshit over this but, damn, it's obvious he has to go.

Sometimes, I wonder if Jim Leyland realizes that Drew Smyly is the best reliever he has. Lately, this has shifted to knowing that he does not.

Astros pick Mark Appel #1 overall. Bet he's wishing he signed with the Pirates now, amirite? (Just teasing. At least he didn't get drafted by the Marlins.)

Astros farm is in pretty good shape though. Good enough that I wish they were still our MLB affiliate with the local A ball club.

Yeah, I absolutely agree. They could be two or three years away from being very decent. And Appel is a stud. He could be in the rotation on opening day next season.

I'm liking what I'm reading about Clint Frazier, the Indians' first-round pick. He's a high school kid but scouts say his bat speed and swing are like that of a college senior. Then again, the Indians drafted him, so he'll probably be out of pro baseball in three years.

EDITED because I repeat myself, you know, repeat myself. Thanks for pointing out my failures, AB.

Is Jeff Loria going to die? I'd probably take that bet. Stanton won't be a Marlin by 2016.

Stanton will never be an Astro. They don't have anybody even remotely close to his talent, so that doesn't change my opinion.

I'll take Yelich, Ozuna, Marisnick, Fernandez, Nicolino, Turner et. al. over Appel, Altuve, Singleton and whoever else. The Astros, with Appel, now have one legit MLB arm.

Everybody is blowing each other over how awesome the Astros front office is and "oh their minor league teams have MLB's best record!" like that actually matters and, at the same time, just s-wording all over the Marlins. I believe, talent-wise, the Fish are set up to be damn good in 2-3 years. While Loria deserves it, the reason he deserves it is not because of the return for that trade. I'm surprised they got anything of substance from Toronto.
