Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
FINALLY!
Bronx Drafthouse (884 Gerard Ave, at 161st St, Concourse Village)
Low-down: After years of putting up with sub-standard suds around Yankee Stadium (and a general lack of widespread craft beer bars in the Boogie Down), this craft-centric spot will open in time for baseball season, serving 20 drafts and beer-friendly bar food from a kitchen that’ll stay open till 1am.
Projected Opening: They originally projected a March opening, so look for doors to open soon.

Jeebus, so as hipsters are priced out of Williamsburg, they're gonna stake out that part of the Bronx?

Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Over the years I'd noticed a few higher end restaurants and other businesses come and go near the stadium. I figured some would've stuck back in the late 90s between the booming economy and the four world series titles, but no. Maybe this time around it will be different. I used to be up there more often (the Latino Sports office is up there, and there are a couple of boxing gyms) but now I'm never up there other than for a ballgame.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Took a foul ball off my thumb at Yankee stadium tonight half on bad hands and half because I was too cool to react until the last minute. If I didn't already have one this would haunt me.

Man, that sucks. What kind of hit was it?mister d wrote:Took a foul ball off my thumb at Yankee stadium tonight half on bad hands and half because I was too cool to react until the last minute. If I didn't already have one this would haunt me.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Tailing foul down the 1st base line. "Ironically", Miller Lite can be blamed because I was too lazy to get up for a last beer and that was in my other hand.
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Some of my friends went to the Yanks game yesterday. I was unable to attend with them.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

This place was super meh. Better than what else is around there but the list wasn't impressive at all.mister d wrote:FINALLY!

It can't be as bad as my friend's performance at a Cubs-Giants game years ago. He had a mitt, and he still missed an easy popup. It hit off the heel of his glove.mister d wrote:Tailing foul down the 1st base line. We were law students. About as far from being a grown-up as you can be.mister d wrote:Ick. A grown-up walking in with a glove is humiliating enough.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
I forgot to mention, I barely missed a foul ball at the mets game two weeks ago. Rather, it barely missed me, because I was ducking away from it. Very high popup (we were ten rows back of the backstop.) landed in the seat next to me, my friend picked it up. Closest (like 12 inches) I've been to one in a decade, but I have no interest in bruising my fingers, just to give the ball to some little kid sitting nearby.

Not a swamper, isn't set at a ballpark, but this posnanski piece kinda meshed with this thread's intended vibe. Joe Pos takes his daughter to see Hamilton.

Braden Shipley's (Triple A Reno) walk up music is a National song. (Which one exactly I couldn't say after hearing only 10 seconds).

My money is that it's something from Boxer. Or Bloodbuzz Ohio.

Bloodbuzz Ohio I would have clocked. That's one of my favorite National songs.govmentchedda wrote:My money is that it's something from Boxer. Or Bloodbuzz Ohio.

The beginning of Mr. November would be great to walk up to; Mistaken for Strangers too.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Had a grand time at the ol' ballpark today, in the good doctor's seats. Beautiful weather, great seats. Only downside was the Giants' snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Honestly my issue is less with garlic fries per se than with the pervasiveness and intensity of the freaking smell. I like pot and I don't even mind the smell necessarily, but if you put me in a stadium where the stench of it is everywhere and overwhelming I'd probably be annoyed at that as well.

I love the taste and smell of garlic. Yum.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
I appreciate that point. But like sancarlos, I love the scent. I also love the smell of pot, even though I was never a big smoker (and not at all for a while now).brian wrote:Honestly my issue is less with garlic fries per se than with the pervasiveness and intensity of the freaking smell.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
I don't know if the pot vaping thing has spread everywhere, but the scentless smoking thing just doesn't do it for me. I mean, I get high and stuff, but I like the opium den aspect of smoking pot sometimes.howard wrote:I appreciate that point. But like sancarlos, I love the scent. And Howard some the pot they have now is insane. 20+ % THC levels. Kids these day don't know what we had to go through!
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Any Baltimore Swampers want to come to the game tonight? I was gifted 8 seats and I'm only using 3 of them. Upper deck behind the plate, Bundy vs. Porcello. I could meet you before the game to give you the seats. My older son and I will be there along with a cousin. If you are interested, just email me at neallichter at yahoo dot com. You can also message me on here.

Beautiful day at Comerica Park today.
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
I haven't been there since the year it opened, but I really liked Comerica.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
There's few better places to see a baseball game and I've been to a bunch of them. Even with my bias I'm confident saying it's a top 10 park.

Want to throw in my appreciation of Comerica.
To quote both Bruce Prichard and Tony Schiavone, "Fuck Duff Meltzer."
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
I don't have a lot to go on, since I've only seen games at Tiger Stadium, old Yankee Stadium, and Comerica, but I've never had a bad seat at CoPa. It's a gorgeous place to watch a game.
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Never gone to a game solo. That changes in 90 minutes!

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
I'm toying an idea to take a road trip to The D this summer to check out Comerica. I love the lane from the pitcher's mound and the home plate-shaped dirt around home. Both are nice touches.
