Re: The Lunch Thread
Jimmy John's has $1 subs in store today.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: The Lunch Thread
We had one open near us (though on an awful stretch of highway, depending on the time of day), but I haven't tried it yet. I even got a coupon for a free sub in a bag of crap that came with the registration info for a 5K I did, and never went. Should I have?A_B wrote:Jimmy John's has $1 subs in store today.

Re: The Lunch Thread
Totally worth getting subs from them today for a buck.
Unfortunately, I'm on my meal plan. Sigh.

On 22, around Springfield or Union? Saw one there, thought about going since I've heard so much about it. Isn't the owner an asshole or something?rass wrote:We had one open near us (though on an awful stretch of highway, depending on the time of day), but I haven't tried it yet. Yes, and I don't know. The local franchise owner, or the national chain owner? The Sybian wrote:On 22, around Springfield or Union? If I ever go, it will likely be a Sunday when most/all of the local owned deli's in town are closed. Except we got a Jersey Mike's recently (on the other side of town, I keep forgetting about it) and they're pretty good.

Also, there don't appear to be any in NH. But they are just over the border in MA.

Re: The Lunch Thread
Their owner shoots elephants, hates gay people, and makes his employees sign non-comptet clauses. Seriously, you can't make sandwiches for competitors for 2 years after working at JJ's.
Re: The Lunch Thread
Now regretting I didn't have starfish and coffee for lunch.

Re: The Lunch Thread
If you have a hankering for chain store sandwiches check and see if there's a Jersey Mike's in your hood. Way better than Jimmy Johns and they slice the meat right in front of you.P.D.X. wrote:Their owner shoots elephants, hates gay people, and makes his employees sign non-comptet clauses. Yeah, they're not too many other places really. But if I'm getting a sandwich, 90+ percent of the time it's Capriotti's. I think they only have like 100 stores nationally and like 20+ are in Las Vegas. Bobbie and Cole Turkey for LIFE.mister d wrote:Isn't Capriotti's out in LV? I wouldn't get a sandwich anywhere else ever.

Just brought a Bobbie back from DE on Tuesday and after 2+ hours of sitting on the passenger's side floor, it got better if anything.

It appears they are all over:

Including Patriot Place. :)
(But none in New Mexico. Sadface.)

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: The Lunch Thread
Yeah, not sure why they never expanded more out East. They got bought by some Las Vegans a few years back so that's why they're headquartered here now.mister d wrote:Its fucked up they started in DE but aren't in NJ.
They are looking for franchisees. Maybe you should start one!

Jimmy John's blows. There was one in the first floor of my office in DC. Ate there twice and won't go back. Just... boring and bland. I don't understand the appeal, other than to serve to young kids that don't desire any flavor.

I only order it when I don't have time to go grab lunch since they're the only place around here that delivers without a minimum or a fee. And in like 10 minutes.

Never had Jimmy John's, so I'll ask, how does it compare to say, Quizno's? Because the above describes Quizno's to a T for me.Nonlinear FC wrote:Jimmy John's blows. Re: The Lunch Thread
Cold sammies, not hot. I slightly prefer JJs. But prefer JJs by miles over subway.
Look, they aren't the greatest, but there's not good deli sammich shops around her anymore (best closed down about 3 years ago) and as Giff said, they are fast and easy.
Also co sign on jersey mikes. Really like that place.

Re: The Lunch Thread
If you put JJ's up against Q's, I'd go with the latter. They just offer some level of zing if you want it, and I like the toasting... My problem is that one of my favorite meals in the world is a grinder at the beach. So when I have gone to Q's, I'm just hugely let down every time.Johnny Carwash wrote:Never had Jimmy John's, so I'll ask, how does it compare to say, Quizno's? The one chain I still frequent is potbelly's. Their Wreck comes darn close to the grinder I like so bad.

Potbelly is very good. Also if I don't care about it being healthy at all, give me Penn Station anytime.Nonlinear FC wrote:If you put JJ's up against Q's, I'd go with the latter. Re: The Lunch Thread
The correct answer is Snarf's if you're in Colorado, Chicago, St. Louis, or Austin.
Re: The Lunch Thread
We have a strong sandwich triangle near my office. A Capriottis (Bobbie is great), a Taylor Gourmet (DC based with the tagline "we grew up on the flavors of Philadelphia's 9th Street Italian Market and could not find that in DC") and Bubs and Pops (a Diners Drive ins and Dives highlighted joint).

Re: The Lunch Thread
I'd rank the major sub chains mentioned here thusly:
1. Jersey Mikes
-- big gap --
2. Jimmy Johns
3. Quizno's
4. Subway
Jimmy John's isn't anything great, it's even a little bland, but it doesn't give me the feeling that I might be eating rat that I get at Quizno's or Subway.
I've only been to Potbelly once. It was good, but I thought it was going to be better. Definitely still below Jersey Mike's.

Totally Kafkaesque
Re: The Lunch Thread
I had a bad Subway about a decade ago. Can't even get a whiff of their shops now without getting nauseous.
Re: The Lunch Thread
Wow. I had no idea Jersey Mike's has so many locations (1000+ according to wiki). I knew they were national, but I guess I was being Jersey-centric in assuming they were smaller and just mostly around the home state.
