Watched "Now You See ME' last week. Enjoyed it. Something fairly original, but they are clearly angling for a franchise.

Woody Harrellson is totally underrated as an actor.

Also saw "The Internship" which I enjoyed as well. I didn't have high expectations, but it was decent.

Saw "This Is The End" last night. Pretty hysterical. Draggy every now and then but definitely worth checking out. Saw it in a sweet new theater in downtown STL that has computer devices in the seats for ordering food and beers and whatnot.

And the food is good! The dude who designed the menu is a fucking great chef. Katrina refugee who just started a new place in Clayton called the Libertine if you're looking for a new place to try.

Yeah, and not really expensive at all. A chicken caesar wrap was $8 and macrobrews were $5. Consider it's like $5 for a pop in most theaters I thought that was a deal and a half.

Saw Man of Steel last night. The fight scenes, especially the first one when he first lets loose, were great. Otherwise, I liked some of the choices they made (Lois) and was a little mixed on some of the others (Krypton). Cavill (Supes) was pretty good, and Costner was pretty much perfect.

The lady and I saw Now You See Me last night. It was entertaining. Feels a little like Oceans Eleven, a tiny bit like a superhero movie, and there's a stellar cast. It's not great, but its a good summer movie.

Watched two movies today for father's day.

Finding Nemo with my daughter (best Father's Day movie) and loved it for the 3rd time.

Searching For Sugar Man a very rare example of a film that was so much better than its hype. Everyone from students of mine to my buddy who runs a documentary film festival raved about this movie... and I was blown away.

The best thing is to watch it without any real knowledge - just enjoy, it is phenomenal.

I finally caught up on "Silver Linings Playbook" last night. (Yeah, I know...way to be current).

I was pretty much "meh" on it. It was ok, I thought, but not amazing or anything.

And Jennifer Lawrence...ok, she's really attractive...and she can act...but she looked like she was 15. The age difference between her and Bradley Cooper was just weird. And she was supposed to have been married for 3 years? I thought "what...did she get married when she was 12? Is she from Kentucky?".

I did laugh at DeNiro's character having been banned from the Stadium for getting in too many fights.

I really liked it, too.

My wife, despite laughing through the whole thing Saturday night, turned to me at one point yesterday and said "that movie was really dumb". Hells yeah it was!

Yeah, it didn't do much for me either. I didn't really get all of the love from critics. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great or even really very good.

That was my favorite movie from last year. I thought it was great all around and deserved every bit of praise it received.

I saw This is the End tonight and it was as great as I hoped it would be. I thought the 50ish woman going solo (as I did) behind me was going to piss herself she was laughing so much.

I'm going to see Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing at some point this weekend. Have heard nothing but praise about it and it has most of my Buffyverse players in it so I'm very excited.

Yep. I was dragged to the theater to go watch it and ended up enjoying it more than Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty.

Saw the sensory assault that is the new Superman movie.

Call it Meh Of Steel and save your cash for other 3D extravaganzas coming down the pipe. This one had awesome special effects and the first hour is great, but ultimately, there are plot holes that make you go "oh, come on!"

I know it's a movie based on comic books, but the material is presented in typical Christopher Nolan style which is to say full of portentuosness and serious delivery by the actors. So, one can b disappointed in a major plot point that a story editor of an animated series for 8 year olds would have red flagged as not making ANY logical sense.

Still, if you bring ear plugs and ignore the completely redundant 10 minute brawl at the end... I'd still wait until it was on DVD.

Absolutely loved it. Depressing as all hell, but it's been too long since I've since a film with a fairly simple story told in such a unique way.

I finally saw Much Ado About Nothing today and it was great if you like Shakespeare. Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof were amazing, as were most of the other cast. Very nice adaptation.

Is it as good as the Branagh one? It's showing around here, and I'm debating whether to go catch it by myself while the wife and kids are out of town.

I been rewatching some old favorites of late. A few weeks ago I watched LA Confidential for the first time in what must have been 15 years. Forgot how great a cast it had (completely blanked on Russell Crowe being in it) and just how awesome a film it was from beginning to end.

Last weekend I saw Deep Impact again, which has always been a personal favorite. I also watched Heat, which I was hoping to really like, but came away kind of disappointed at. The story wasn't anything special and was very predictable and the acting was well over the top in areas (especially Pacino).

It is different as it is set in Whedon's house only, but I think it is as good.

There was some sort of Bollywood Oscars in both Toronto and Vancouver last year. I get the feeling these things are as important as December Bowl Games.

Yep. The IIFA Awards are the big one for Bollywood; as with the Oscars, their Academy determines winners. The Times Of India Film Awards that were held in Vancouver is pretty much a People's Choice celebfest; the awards are determined by fan voting.

The Grammy Awards, sure. That would inject some life into it. The Oscars? Nah, too American. It's Hollywood blowing itself. The fact that there is a "Foreign Film" category pretty much sums up their arrogance. How could they go to, say, Rome and have such US bias? Never going to happen. Unless, of course, they ever decided to make it truly international. Right now it's as silly as strictly US-based sporting leagues calling their season winner "world champions".

But the Grammy Awards, certainly. You could stage that anywhere in the world. Probably should. It would be gigantic in Asia.

Saw a screening of The Way, Way Back last night and it was GREAT. Just a perfect summer movie. Even though it's almost impossible to get an Oscar nomination for a comedy, Sam Rockwell deserves one. Maybe the best performance he's ever given.
