Didn't they step through some kind of pylons on the walk? I thought maybe the scientist guy had rigged up a way that forced ships to land a distance away? Pure guess...

If I'm picking at nits... It seemed really weird to me that the communications uplink thing AND the means of re-positioning the massive satellite were both located in oddly unsecured, outdoor spots.
On the flip side, it always really bugged me that the Death Star had this glaring vulnerability. To have that explained actually removes one of my biggest issues with the entire franchise.

The more I think about this movie, the more I like it. It has this Doolittle Raiders vibe to it that really appeals to me.
And you gotta think, they knew they were going to die. Plus it's always cool when the hero is a bad ass chick.
A question. Was Scarif mentioned in 4,5, or 6? I don't remember it specifically, but I'm sure it had to be.

Just saw it with my oldest. Loved it.

Saw it this afternoon and loved it. My oldest leaned over and made a few comments to me throughout. He's got a better grasp of the series than I do.
Also sounds like Fisher is doing better.

It hurt the first part of the movie in my mind. Took me a bit to figure out what was going on because we didn't get the primer.duff wrote:Just back home from seeing it. I thought it was a very good movie. Not often that all of the heroes die, but it had to be that way for the movie to fit into the narrative of the next films.
What really threw me was no scroll before the start of the movie, and none of the iconic John Williams score.
I enjoyed it.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Saw it last night, so I'm finally able to read this thread.
We enjoyed it, a lot. Liked how it fit into the plot line for ANH. Understood why they all had to die at the end, but I would have enjoyed seeing more about the blind dude and his friend. They were great characters.
Man...going to movies is so annoying these days though. We were going to the 630pm showing, figured we wouldn't have to get there early since the movie has been out for 2 weeks now. We got there at 620, and the theater was PACKED. Only seats were in the front row. So we went and stood in line for the 730 showing. Got seats there, and then had to sit through 30 minutes of ads/filler (with Maria Mennisous (sp?), and then almost 20 minutes of BAD trailers. Of the trailers we saw (fast and furious, some dark/gritty King Arthur reboot, the next Transformers bullshit) the only one I'll go see is the next Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
The trailers for our showing were for Kong Island (or whatever the next one is being called), the new Planet of the Apes movie, Logan, and Guardians of the Galaxy. They were all pretty good. But my youngest is afraid of gorillas, so the two CGI monkey movies freaked her the fuck out.

CGP Grey and Brady kind of go in on the film. If you follow them at all on YouTube, you'd like their channels, and probably their podcast Hello: Internet.

What threw me is the fifteen minutes of commercials before the movie even started. Then 3 quick trailers. I'd rather watch fifteen minutes of trailers then ads.
But anyway, did anyone else notice that when Jyn got blasted back from the spaceship taking off, her fathers body didn't move? She has to cling on for dear life, and dying crumpled Hannibal, didn't move at all.

And before you say he wasn't in the blast area, think about where the two of them were, and where she climbed up from. She didn't crawl up a hanging hanger and then jump over a huge gap to get to him. They were on the same side. Sure would have sucked even more if he died in a rebel attack and then had his body torched and thrown down a flaming valley before his daughter could say goodbye. But something ain't right here.
Ok, so maybe I am saying his body would have lit on fire and tumbled against the rocks until he either burnt up or broke into a hundred pieces.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
And yeah the lack of scroll and too many planets/stories(?), threw it off at the beginning for me too. Plus I'm surprised, nobody said ' spoiler- everybody dies' when describing the movie to me. I guess it's one of the only movie you can't say that for.

Without really knowing anything at this point, that title is open to some interesting interpretations.
e: Thinking about it more, that's really an underwhelming title. Off the top of my head, don't think any of the previous entries re-used terms from earlier titles. That could confuse more casual viewers.

In ANH, when the stormtroopers bust in on C3PO and R2's hideaway on the Death Star, one of them hits his head on the sliding (up) door. Clearly a flub, but it was left in the final movie.

I'm a little disappointed that I'm just not as jazzed about Star Wars as I thought I'd be. Haven't even seen the one released last year. Shelve the Jedi crap. Shelve the Darth Vader Junior garbage. Give me some fan fiction. I want to see movies based in the grays, not the evil v good mantra. Give me some good bounty hunter stories. And don't give me some bullshit good guy love story chasing them across the galaxy, either. I want these movies to earn an R rating, too.

There was definitely some gray area in Rogue One from last year. Some of the "good" guys were assassins and terrorists. And they didn't all get along. It was a pretty damn good movie.EnochRoot wrote:I'm a little disappointed that I'm just not as jazzed about Star Wars as I thought I'd be. Haven't even seen the one released last year.
