Only went to the ABQ Hooters once, it was the only place open on XMAS as we waited for a movie to start. Ojos Locos, gotta a love a place that calls the waitresses "chicas."

This is the type of station that caters to the fan that feels Carly Simon was more integral than say, a Carole King? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also in your defense, waffle ball is tasty as hell and that is a major distraction.

Crossfit chick. That's a brand heavily worn in lifting circles.

Also, Caffeine and Kilos makes pretty good coffee.

Am I the only person who somehow feels weird sitting in the backseat when using Uber/Lyft? I feel like the drivers are just regular people so it seems weird to take an attitude that they're your chauffeur or something.

Anyway, I usually ask if they're OK with me sitting in the passenger seat.

2nd this. Also in cases where I have had black-car type things. I always ask to ride shotgun. I picked up this behavior from my dad. It goes back to I am not better than this person who makes his/her living this way. Don't behave like it. The only issue is they frequently have too much crap on the seat.

hmm..
that depends though...
if its a short ride, like office to hotel/vice versa.. i'm ok in the front.
if its to/from airport (30 to 60mins plus)..i'm sitting in the back and doing emails or calls or surfing the interwebs. rather do that in the back seat than sitting in front - figure that would be rude (for the record, i've taken 13 uber trips so far this month... likely another 10 before the week is out.)

and of course if sitting in the back makes me an elitist asshole, then too fucking bad.

I much prefer to be in the back seat. I also much prefer these drivers to STFU and just take me to my destination. One Lyft driver in Denver was especially chatty and I wanted to punch him by the end of the trip.

ETA: Pretty much echo what elflaco said. When I'm in a cab or Lyft to/from the airport, I'm trying to work. I don't need to hear the driver's life story.

I usually sit in the front, unless the driver has a bunch of stuff in the seat. The front seat is always more comfortable and I feel like less of a douche.

I always sit in the back. Nothing to do with class or elitism or anything, just prefer more separation from someone I don't know, and I would guess the majority of the drivers do as well.

Also, maybe not in as harsh of terms, but I'm with Sabo on not really wanting to talk. I prefer to just kind of zone out on longer trips, not get peppered with questions.

I ended up having to take a Lyft yesterday as fate had it (car died and had to pick it up from the dealer) and asked the driver and while it's a small sample size he said he generally prefers people sitting in the back, so there's that.

Also found out the driver's brother is a freshman on San Diego State's football team this year.

Front seat because I"m usually taking it to/from shows (and sometimes it's a shared ride) so I don't mind the chatter. I hardly take Ubers for work because I pretty much only travel to Canada and they have weird taxi laws there. (At least in Winnipeg there's no Uber/lyft, and you have to sit in the back as the Sikh {always} driver has a layer of plexiglass protecting him.)

I've got this concept going that every decade in America can be strongly associated with a city, thanks to the culture of the time. So far, my locks are...

1960s - San Francisco
1970s - New York
1980s - Los Angeles (with Miami and Dallas just behind- I feel like the 80s were big enough to handle multiple answers. It's basically the huge vagina of decades.)
1990s - Seattle

Does anyone have a good argument for our two most recent decades? I feel like you could go back to New York again for the '00s and maybe DC for the 10s so far, but nothing leaps out like in the past.

Also, any ideas about the older ones? I guess Chicago comes to mind for the 20s.

1980s is definitely Miami. I grew up in L.A. in the 1980s, and would still give the title to Miami.

1900's or 1910's could be St. Louis? It seems like there's stuff from that time when people saw St. Louis as some sort of cool cultural place.
1930's and 1940's I just think New York (or Berlin).
1950's - Los Angeles, or "generic American suburb"
2010's - Portland

1910s and/or 1920s is absolutely Detroit. During that period it was the richest city in America (no lie, you can look it up -- it was the Silicon Valley of the day).

I usually lean musically for this question, so I'd consider Atlanta for the 2000s.

That only gets me to the 80s though. I've done this same thing before and can't remember what I had for the 70s (I had NY for the 80s, and also had Seattle for the 90s - which I think is the lockiest one on this list).

Chicago for the 20s is a great nomination. I'd also put Detroit in the 50s or 60s. St. Louis for some reason makes me think 1940s-ish.

Then you'd have to put Galveston in the 1890s. I put Detroit closer to the 50s - just because that's what I associate it with.

Duluth would have an argument for the 20s on prosperity and I'm not nominating Duluth.
