Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
So if you're following these things, Lucasfilm just fired the directors of the Han Solo movie very late in the production, which almost never happens, and Ron Howard (!) is rumored to be in talks to take over.

Yeah, that's odd. Hopefully someone spills the real story at some point.
They were hot shit at one point (coming off The Lego Movie and the Jump Street films) but that's two big time productions that they've had fall apart on them (The Flash at DC, too).

The bar has to be high though. You don't have to love every film in the franchise, but for what Mickey Mouse paid, they can't be Crystal Skulls bad.rass wrote:Yeah, that's odd. Hopefully someone spills the real story at some point.

A behind-the-scenes reel rather than a new trailer, but still some interesting first looks at stuff:

This is basic this generations G.I. Joe Aircraft Carrier. Some kid in the neighborhood will have it and you wonder, what in the world parents were doing buying this for their kid.

I don't think their target is kids.

Agreed but the husbands who have to explain $800 lego purchase are going to point to their 4-year old and say it's for them.

Any of you assholes show that to my oldest son, and we are no longer internet friends.

I don't know what kind of an American this makes me, but I was never into Lego or Star Wars as a kid.

Good old G.I. Joe vehicles and their boxes that didn't include 60% of the shit depicted on the cover.

Not sure if the people buying that really have wives or children. They may have to explain to mom as they bring it into the basement though.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Friend in elementary school had the air craft carrier. And he had all the extra shit on the box too.
To quote both Bruce Prichard and Tony Schiavone, "Fuck Duff Meltzer."

I don't get Lego 'models'. Much preferred to put together a realistic (non-lego) one and use legos to build my own creations.

Well maybe it will save a few of the 1400 jobs that Lego announced they were laying off yesterday.
Also, my son pulled me into Starwars Rebels....Really good stuff. New trailer came out this week

Was thinking it might be the new trailer, but that was like 90% as good.

They either gave a lot away or there were a ridiculous number of blatant misdirects, even for a trailer.

Oh, and since it's the fan controversy of the day, I'm currently pro-porg.

Been so excited to see Luke come back as a full-on Jedi Master (hopefully not a little bouncy one like Yoda in AotC, but still) that I never stopped to think how cool it would be for him to fly the Falcon into battle, Force wielding the cannons and being all Skywalker-y.

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
For those who follow this thread but don't really want to be spoiled, stuff will start hitting social media after the premiere tomorrow, and then the review embargo drops Tuesday. Might be best to stay away from those places until you see the movie. (I will probably try to.)

Did I mention that Microsoft is getting us a showing on Dec 14, a day before it opens? Perks of working for a giant nerd corp.

My wife works for a tech company that is doing an event for their customers on the 14th. She is not interested in going. My son lost a bit of respect for her.
Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
Going to see it the evening of the 14th, but paid for my own tickets.
Started re-watching TFA last night, for the first time since seeing it in the theater. I still think the film did a shitty job of explaining the significance of The Resistance vs The Republic and why that planetary system getting blown up was a big deal. I guess anything else would have required a longer movie and introducing Leia earlier, and losing her dramatic entrance.
Also, the series of coincidences at the beginning really is a little much. I guess Rey's origin story might lessen that a bit (like if we learn Von Sydow's character was there keeping an eye on her or something).
Excited though!

Re: Star Wars Thread...The Spoiler Edition
I'm trying to gauge the reactions so far without running into anything too spoilery. The things I'm hearing are weirdly contradictory—some saying that it doesn't do anything revolutionary, with others saying that it has some huge plot twists and will be really divisive. I guess I can wait a couple more days.

I've seen both in the same review. Really want to read some more but I think I should stop and just wait for Thursday night.
