I think the odds of CR winning a WCQ game outright under "normal" circumstances (no serious injuries to US, CRC is at its normal level, etc.) are probably closer to +700/+750, but betting lines have inefficiency built in for the house edge so given that +500 is about right. I think the fact that I'm assuming it's going to be a 50/50 crowd (I hope I'm wrong) might get you a little more value for that +500.
They're missing Matarrita too and he seems to drive some of their offense so maybe its not great. I don't know, I just used to really like betting on the other side when my team was a big favorite.

Nothing against this guy, but a stadium singalong is the only right way to do the home anthem in a big qualifier. This isn't a Thursday night Mets game.
I don't want to pick on New Jersey and Red Bull Arena too much, but it's about time US Soccer found its fortress. Columbus served in that role well but it is too small and I think it may have just gotten lucky. Maybe it's Seattle. I wouldn't have any problem with every big US qualifier being in Seattle until further notice. Kansas City is great but it is too small in the long run. Orlando is interesting but I think it is also too small and too Florida. Selfishly I am rooting for Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but it's a non-starter for Mexico games so no.
Crew Stadium has been great, but it seats 20K, it's in the #3 city in Ohio, and one of the ends is used to showcase new cars. Is that really our destiny? I think we need to start dreaming bigger. The USA support is there--from all accounts the US crowd at RBA was great, just didn't have anything to root for. The NY-DC corridor just doesn't work for Central American games, that's all. This is kind of like the pro/rel issue where the old/existing policies have served us well for 20 years but it's time to start thinking about what the game should look like in 2027, when we'll have had a second World Cup here and helmet-based football will be much more clearly in decline.
Walked around the Orlando stadium, but haven't been in. It's definitely not that big, and way too Florida, and fuck Orlando and their shit supporters groups.

When I read this, my thought was "where are all these CR fans going to come from?" Then I remembered during the 2014 World Cup, I was seeing CR flags all over the place. There were 4 in my neighborhood of 50 or so houses, and tons in the surrounding towns. Completely forgot I am surrounded by Costa Ricans, probably because none of them have opened a restaurant.
Was it just me, or were the announcers and analysts out of line in saying CR completely dominated the game? I felt the US had much more possession and control of the game, had numerous dangerous breaks, but were undone by some horrendous defensive errors, and CR put away the two opportunities they had. If the ref gives the penalty on Altidore being pulled down, it's a different game. I do agree that CR worked harder for loose balls and played their strategy perfectly, but I just didn't see them dominate the US.

Honduras always plays big qualifiers in late afternoon to maximize the heat/humidity advantage. On Sirius this morning they mentioned that there are thunderstorms in the forecast, so we have that to look forward to.
England have lined up Brazil, Germany in November and Italy and Holland in March as World Cup preparation friendlies. Plus whatever preparations needed in May/June.

I was at that game, glad i didnt buy the expensive ticket !. So infuriating, seemed like everyone suffered from Arsenal disease "goals are only allowed after a minimum of 12 passes and can t be scored out of the box". 34 shots, a couple hit the posts. Kurzawa and Lemar just kept shooting crosses into the closest defender (1 succesfull cross combined out of 34 ). They could have played for hours and not scored. It s like they only give a shit during big games. Spain or Germany usually roll over tiny countries 7 0 but we can t.
